Sparkle Quilt
with Barbara Dann
Thursday, October 22nd and Friday, October 23rd

Barbara Dann, of Alleycat Quiltworks, returns to Sew Vac for a hands-on class using Studio 180 rulers and Michelle Renee Hiatt's Sparkle Quilt pattern!
In this 2 day class, you'll learn all about Studio 180's Trimmer,Corner Pop, and V-Block rulers. If you collect or love Fat Quarters, the Sparkle quilt is perfect for you! It makes fabulous use of Fat Quarters and is perfect for any color background. For the most sparkle, go with a high contrast between your background fabric and fat quarters. We're also hosting an optional Fabric Cutting Seminar on Thursday, October 15th, from 1:00pm-2:00pm. This seminar is free of charge and is designed to help you cut all your pieces before the event.

Lori Hernandez’s experience, creativity and passion for teaching will set your feet on solid ground! If you’re a beginner or a seasoned serging sewist, this is the class for you. Lori has designed this class to take you through foundational techniques, creative projects and embellishing know-how. So many think sergers are just for cutting and finishing those edges. Sergers do that beautifully, but get ready to experience sew much more. Quilting, Construction, Zipper Insertion, Lori’s “Cover Hem Plaid Technique”, Flatlocking, Wave Stitch Edging, Chain Stitch Embellishing, Lori’s “Rolled Hem Piping Technique” just to name a few serging possibilities you will experience.

Camp Shirt with Pattie Otto

A relaxed fit camp shirt is a must have for every wardrobe. The drop shoulder and turn back collar lend themselves to unlimited possibilities, be it a blouse, comfortable short sleeve jacket, swimsuit cover up, etc. The fabric options are also limitless, from pretty cotton prints to luscious batiks to light and airy rayons, you will want to make more than one. Class begins with accurate measurements and try-on samples to help you determine your pattern size. Pattie will assist in any fitting issues you might have and show you how to alter the pattern. Class also includes cutting and construction assistance as well as interfacing tips while you create your shirt.
Beginning Sewing with Pattie Otto

Are you new to sewing or looking for a refresher? This class will introduce you to the inspiring world of sewing while you create a versatile Ten Pocket Tote. Class will begin by familiarizing you with the basics of your sewing machine as you learn the mechanics, practice threading, how to wind a bobbin and use seam guides to sew simple seams. After you have selected your fabrics, you will then proceed to cut out your tote using both patterns and rulers. Sewing techniques will include simple seams and hems, seam finishes, topstitching and tips for accurate sewing. Pattie will also demonstrate quick seam finishes, handle variations, easy embellishments and optional closures. Class fee includes fabric and thread for the 10 Pocket Tote.

This fabulous beach tote comes together in a snap using precut fabric. This tote is extra large for all your beachy accessories, and features generous handles to keep it all together! Students will learn about zig-zag stitching, layout, and basic bag construction.
Folded Fabric Medallion with Cheryl McLeod

Make a stunning fabric medallion with Cheryl! These gorgeous medallions can be used in quilt blocks, as table toppers, as an embellishment on garments—anything you can think of! Students will learn all about design and layout, setting up a grid foundation, and sewing through multiple layers. Cheryl will also discuss options for finishing the medallion center.

Knits for the Absolutely Terrified with Pattie Otto

Racks are filled with them, as are your closets and drawers. Knits are everywhere, so why aren't you sewing with them? Are you a little hesitant? Are your palms a bit sweaty? Admit it. You're terrified of sewing with knits. Put these fears to rest with this fun and exciting class. Included will be advice on how to select the right knit for your tees, tanks, cardigans, pullovers and more as well as layout and cutting pointers and super quick construction tips for professional results every time. Pattie will also share her tips for handling the new ITY and other curly knits. You'll be amazed at how easy knits really are to sew.  This is a lecture class.
Knit Serger Techniques Class (also How to use the Knit Binder) with Pattie Otto

Master the four basic techniques needed to serge knits: seaming, neckbands, hems and applying elastic. This hands on class covers basic seaming on a variety of knit types and where and when to use stabilizers and topstitching. Practice four different neckband techniques including how and when to use the Knit Binder. Several hemming options will also be covered including cover stitch basics on a variety of knit fabrics. Simple elastic waistbands for pull-on pants will be explored as well as a professional cover stitch option. You will complete multiple samples with detailed class worksheets that you can apply when making knit garments.  There is $15 kit fee payable to Pattie at the time of class.  The kit includes Knits for the Absolutely Terrified booklet, worksheets and fabric for samples. 
Knit Pullover/Lounger with Pattie Otto
Monday, October 19th
Sergers and knits go together like cookies and milk (sorry, no cookies will be served). Let Pattie show you how easy it is to serge and hem knits with your serger. Choose between two fabulous tee patterns, Great Copy Savannah Tee, Soho Tunic or Pattie's new lounger pattern. Class will begin with measurements and try-on samples to help you select your correct size. Pattie will then help you with fitting and pattern adjustments. She will also show you how to easily cut, stabilize, serge and hem knit fabrics with your serger.
