Street in the Time of Coronavirus
Ben, a friend from Street who received a donated bike!
In March when COVID hit, our 16-year-old Street Outreach Program was forced to pause for the first time since its creation as we gathered information on the best and safest way to proceed. Volunteers began meeting Wednesday night to catch up on where kids were and to brainstorm what the future might look like. Through the tireless work of our amazing street volunteers and the dedication of our Street Outreach Coordinator, Suzanne, we officially resumed our outreach program on June 1st! Our kids are adjusting to a new way of life and our program is adjusting to meet those needs. You can find our team out on the streets of downtown every Monday night, outfitted with masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and thermometers! If you'd like to join our street team, sign up to train today or reach out to Suzanne with questions (suzannes@standupforkids.org).

Back to School!
Our Fulton County schools have returned to classes virtually as of August 17th and Gwinnett began on August 12th. Join us in sending out a huge congratulations and best wishes to our returning students! We are doubling our efforts to support them in this time of transition and we commend their perseverance as they navigate the new virtual learning.

Ralph O'Connor: Street Volunteer Extraordinaire
For ten years now, Ralph has been a fixture at StandUp, sitting at the CNN Center food court each Wednesday night to serve dinner. While we may only know him as the dedicated street volunteer and longtime McClarin mentor, Ralph has also volunteered with CAPN doing Medicaid billing, read TB tests weekly for Covenant House, volunteered at the Center for Pan-Asian Community Services (CPACS) helping immigrant communities with voter registration, is active in the charity projects of the Knights of Columbus, and is a certified application counselor helping people to navigate the Affordable Care Act marketplace. We are in awe of all Ralph has done for the community and we are so excited to see what activism and volunteer work he'll get into next!
Partnerships and Extraordinary Donations
We are so grateful for our dedicated and long term partners at the Alpharetta Rotary. Their generosity significantly helped to support our North Fulton Mentoring Program in 2019-20 and they have donated 7 laptops and tablets for our kids with technology needs. Join us in celebrating their commitment to StandUp and their continued support of our programs through the years!

We would also like to enthusiastically thank our new partner the Hope XPress Community Church! We are inspired by the extensive history of their ministry and the many ways that they have supported the homeless community. Pastor Alfred and Pastor Jo Anne are veteran mentors, having supported and mentored kids all over the United States and even as far as Kumasi Ghana West Africa and Haiti. We are so grateful for their donation and so excited to have them as a part of our new team of volunteers!
