Council has authorized the Seaside Community Society to coordinate and deliver the annual Mine Town Day event. After delays and limitations due to COVID, the enthusiastic volunteers are planning a scaled down but family fun event on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Huddlestone Park. The Lantzville Fire Chief has ordered the Copley Ridge Recreation Trail closed for all public use due to the EXTREME FIRE HAZARD. (Trail closure is in effect until public is otherwise notified)

Fire Rescue is asking residents to consider the consequences of their actions during these extremely dry forest conditions.

The public is asked to call 911 immediately if a fire is suspected.

Our Emergency Planning Coordinator recommends checking out the RDN Extreme Weather page for info on how to avoid heat stroke and heat exhaustion, how to prepare and what to do during and after extreme heat.

Outdoor burning (including campfires) is NOT permitted on private and public property in the District of Lantzville. This means that any open flame of woody material, use of tiki torches, fireworks, sky lanterns, burning barrels, and Category 2 & 3 open fires are prohibited.

Campfires on private and public property, and outdoor fireplaces have been added to the outdoor burning ban issued in June. Only devices using fuel that does not create sparks/embers (propane, natural gas, camp fuel or briquettes) will be allowed. All outdoor burning including incinerators and campfires are strictly prohibited. Please be aware that forest conditions are extremely dry.

Under the watering restrictions in Stages 2 and 3, sprinkling is permitted between the hours of 7:00 am to 10:00 am OR 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm for a maximum of 2 hours every other day on the following days:

Sprinkling includes watering lawns, ornamental shrubs, flowers and trees and use of pop-up spray, rotors and sprinklers.

Putting in a new lawn? Apply for a new lawn permit.

The following are permitted at any time in Stages 2 and 3: hand-watering (trees, shrubs vegetables), drip irrigation, and micro irrigation (check regularly for leaks); washing vehicles, boats, and houses (siding) if using a hose with a shutoff device; filling fountains, pools or hot tubs; pressure washing walkways, driveways and siding.

Vegetable gardens and fruit trees are exempt from all watering restrictions but watering in the early morning or in the evening is recommended - less evaporation.

In addition, under Stage 3, residents are encouraged to voluntarily reduce their water use on top of the restriction measures that have been in place since May 1st. Stage 3 is implemented as required prior to an enforced lawn watering ban that would come into effect under Stage 4.

The Province has announced that Vancouver Island is experiencing a Level Four drought, and has also called for voluntary water use reduction.

District of Lantzville trails and parks are strictly for non-motorized public recreation uses.

Phase I of the Lantzville Commercial Core Revitalization Project - the portion of Lantzville Road between Dickinson Road and Caillet Road is complete! A ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 18th. Please follow COVID protocols in effect at the time.

On July 7th Council authorized the District applying to Western Economic Diversification Canada for a Canada Community Revitalization Fund Grant for Phase II of the Lantzville Commercial Core Revitalization Project – the portion of Lantzville Road between Dickinson Road and Tweedhope Road. Council also authorized amending the 2021-2025 Financial Plan to include $650,000 for the project, funded with $487,500 grant funding and $162,500 from Gas Tax. The District looks forward to hearing the outcome of the grant application later this year.
