Welcome from our principal

Mrs. Erin Mascaro!

Hello and welcome to a new school year at Sacred Heart Elementary School! My name is Erin Mascaro and I am the new principal. Although I am new to this position, I have been a part of the Sacred Heart Community for many years as a parent and coach. I look forward to a school year full of joy and learning for our students as I support the dedicated teachers, staff and caring families of our school.

The Diocesan COVID policies for the start of our school year will be announced soon. Michelle Peduto (The Director of Catholic Schools), has assured us that the Diocese is carefully considering the best course of action for the safety of our students and staff. This year, a synchronous virtual option will not be available. However, we are currently exploring an asynchronous option. We look forward to sharing more details with you shortly.

Notes from the office

Welcome back to all students and families as we embark on a new and promising school year! We are always willing to assist you and your family with your questions and concerns.

Supply Fee

You may have noticed that a $30, one time only fee for school supplies, was added as an incidental expense to your 2021–2022 FACTS tuition plan. This fee was referred to on the supply list for your child’s grade level. It will be deducted by September 10 using the bank or credit card you entered for payments. This fee pays for materials ordered by the school for use by your child (children) like planners, take-home folders, writing tablets, pencils, etc. Be alert to this fee at the beginning of September.

2020–2021 IOWA Test Results

Test results are now available for those students who were enrolled at Sacred Heart Elementary School last year and took the IOWA tests in May, 2021. The parent copy of the test results will be sent home on Monday, August 30. Look for an envelope from your child containing this important information.

Information coming home on Monday, August 30

  • The Family Packet (one per family via oldest child; please return to the office by September 15)
  • Free and Reduced Lunch forms
  • Test Scores (Returning families)
  • Missing Registration materials (New families only)
  • Oakland Catholic Events (Grade 6, 7, 8 girls only)

Cafeteria Information

Dear Parents,

Access to consistent, nutritious meals is fundamentally important to all students as they learn and grow. The food manufacturing and distribution industry is facing many challenges including staffing and labor shortages, as well as rising costs of materials and transportation. As a result, we have to prepare for our lunch program budget to continue to rise throughout the school year. We will therefore need to increase our daily lunch cost to $3.00 per day. Milk remains at .50¢ cents and breakfast at $1.25.

I look forward to seeing the students soon,

Mrs. Maola

Free and Reduced Lunch Applications will be made available to all of our families with the oldest child on Monday, August 30. Please ask your child for this information.

Uniform Guidelines

The goal of the dress code is to reinforce a careful and responsible attitude that focuses on learning. Students are to be properly groomed at all times. Attire is to be neat, clean, and modest. Unless special dress has been designated, the school uniform is to be worn at all times during the school day. The students are expected to arrive at school in the uniform as outlined in the Student Handbook. The school reserves the right to enforce these standards as well as those that it may deem necessary.

This year we are offering a new option to the list of permitted “sweaters”. Students in grades 1–8 can wear a crew neck sweatshirt with a Crusader logo that was offered through the Athletic Association last year. If your child does not have one, you can place an order below. This sweatshirt should be worn over the polo shirt or shirt/tie. A collar should be visible.

2021–2022 Instrumental Music at Sacred Heart Elementary

Mrs. Sherry Traugh is delighted to be offering band instrument lessons to students in grades 4-8 this year. All instruction is provided on Tuesdays during the school day. The band will begin the year with a 30 minute weekly small group lesson. We are hopeful that ensemble rehearsals and concerts will be able to take place if CDC safety measures allow.

  • First lesson on September 7 for returning students in grades 6, 7 and 8.
  • NEW beginning band students in grades 4 & 5 will start on September 14

A short introductory meeting will be held with Grade 4 and 5 students on the morning of Tuesday, August 31st to present the instrument options and encourage interest.

For more detailed information and to receive a registration form:

Please email Mrs. Traugh ([email protected]) by August 27 with student name/grade and homeroom.
