August 2021 (No. 108)
Welcome to our newsletter. Once a month we will update you with news about David Matero Architecture and our community. We welcome your comments, questions and feedback.
Livable Little House
The Livable Little House was limited by code reasons to be no larger than 750 sf. Within that small footprint, the owner wanted to maximize her book storage, include wall space for artwork, and create a cozy single-floor living space with simple and clean lines. Large windows provide views of the water, and windows pushed to the corner makes the house seem larger than it is. Construction by Pat McAllaster. Photography by James R Salomon Photography.
Rose Stone
DMA recently received Zoning Board of Appeals approval for the renovation / addition to Rose Stone in Falmouth. This 4,600 sf office building, originally built as a house, is in dire needs of serious TLC. DMA designed a complete makeover and major energy upgrades. Construction to start this fall.
Yellow Brick Road
Main Street Bath's largest fundraiser is coming up Labor Day weekend, Sunday Sept. 5th starting at 7pm. Yellow Brick Road, a nationally recognized Elton John Tribute Band (who lives here in Bath), is playing in the Bath Waterfront Park. Their amazing show was a big hit a couple of years ago. You do not want to miss this, tickets are on sale here.
Good luck Max
DMA wishes our summer intern, Max, good luck as he goes back to Auburn University this month. Max is going into his 4th year at Auburn, and he was a fun and productive intern architect this summer. He even posed during a photo shoot at Otter Way that you might find in the upcoming Maine Homes by Downeast magazine. Photograph by Richard Mitchell.
Views from the Jobsite
Rough-in is complete and gypsum board has been delivered to the site at Clifden. Much of the exterior is complete, and the composition of cedar shingles, metal siding and windows is proving to be quite nice. The masonry fireplace will be a complimentary feature in the living room, but that will be hard to compete with the views. Construction by Oceanside Builders.
Centre Street Arts Gallery
Ed McCartan paints with the help of his dog Mickey who wants nothing more than to entertain visitors. Ed is a retired teacher, most recently at the Emma Willard School and Russell Sage College in Troy, NY., and holds an MFA from SUNY, Albany, as well as graduate degrees in philosophy, theology and art education More of his work can be found at Centre Street Arts Gallery, 11 Centre Street in Bath.
Mark Twain House, Hartford, CT, designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter, 1871
