Delaware Division of the Arts Grants Nearly $3 Million to Arts Projects in FY 2023 | |
|
The Delaware Division of the Arts is investing nearly $3 million in more than 110 arts and community organizations that will serve Delawareans statewide with arts programming and services, arts education, and arts marketing and promotion. This first round of funding for FY2023 includes: General Operating Support, Project Support, Arts Stabilization, StartUp and Education Resource grants.
“Artists and arts organizations state-wide have been on the cutting edge of innovation and community impact over the last two years. As they turn to a new phase of recovery from the shutdowns related to Delaware’s public health emergency, it is critical that the Delaware Division of the Arts continue our significant investment into the sector,” said Jessica Ball, director of the Delaware Division of the Arts. “This investment in the creative workforce—artists and organizations alike—enhances education, stimulates local economies, and enriches our communities.”

Arts and Economic Prosperity 6 Surveys Beginning
| |
|
Americans for the Arts is excited to announce the launch of Arts & Economic Prosperity 6 (AEP6), their sixth national study of the economic impact of the nonprofit arts and culture industry. Building on its 25-year legacy, the highly regarded Arts & Economic Prosperity series will once again document in unprecedented scope and detail the economic power that the arts and culture wield in 395 participating communities representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia—communities ranging in geography (Alaska to Florida to Maine to Hawaii), population (1,400 to 4.7 million), and population density (rural to large urban).
Organizations should expect to see information shortly about audience surveying that will be required in order for Delaware to participate in the study. Participation in this study is essential as the data results directly impact public funding through the monies provided to the Delaware Division of the Arts.

National Leaders of Color Fellowship Application Opens August 1
| |
|
Coming Soon! The Leaders of Color Fellowship (LoCF) application opens on August 1. The LoCF is a strategic leadership development program for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) leaders in our region who are committed to the advancement of cultural equity in the arts. Using a cohort structure, the program, administered by Western States Arts Federation, emphasizes experiential learning, community building and service to the field.
Since 2010, and for the past two years in partnership with South Arts, the Western States Arts Federation’s (WESTAF) Emerging Leaders of Color (ELC) program has promoted diverse, representative leadership and equity in the arts field by supporting the leadership of more than 100 arts leaders of color. A direct result of recommendations made to WESTAF from arts and culture leaders and advocates from across the region, this work is articulated through our Leaders of Color Fellowship (LoCF) Program and on an ongoing basis with the Leaders of Color (LC) Network.

Alice Morris
Emerging, Literature: Poetry
| |
After living in Baltimore and West Virginia, the Lewes resident came to Delaware 34 years ago. With her colleagues, she’s active in regional writing groups, and her recent poems have been very widely published. “Early on, I knew writing was risky and challenging,” so Morris wrote sporadically until the past decade, and she still finds the daily practice a challenge. “Sometimes I’m not so patient. But poetry will not be pushed around. I can’t force it to comply,” and often “inspiration will return later.” She’s gratified when a piece comes together, “when it’s accepted for publication in a space where I thought it would fit perfectly.”

Isai Jess Muñoz
Established, Music: Solo Recital
| |
Muñoz’ immigrant parents filled the house with Latin American music, folkloric and popular. His father plays several instruments, and his mother came from a singing tradition. But it was a grade-school outreach visit by young artists from a local opera company that transformed him. That day, he heard “the ethereal sounds of classical singing. I was hooked!” Muñoz ran home and told his parents that he wanted to be an opera singer. He soon found himself a child chorister in Puccini’s Tosca, onstage with famous baritone Sherrill Milnes, and he stayed in the opera company’s youth program until college.
