NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERSHIP ACADEMY TRAINING PROGRAM
|
|
Neighborhood Leadership Academy (NLA), is a 10-session leadership training program focused on community building principles, in a statewide virtual/hybrid format September 12 through November 14. This program guides participants through subjects such as: community building principles, planning, fundraising, marketing, engaging, and evaluating – as well as recognizing and developing their individual leadership strengths. This course is a collaboration between University of Missouri St. Louis and University of Missouri Extension that has educated more than 400 neighborhood and organization leaders over the last 20 years.
Participation in the program is effective regardless of the size of your neighborhood, community, county or region. Academy participants may be neighborhood association members, community leaders, volunteers, community-based organization staff, business owners and their employees, local government staff, and municipal elected officials. Businesses, local governments and other organization are encouraged to sponsor or support a participant in the program.

MISSOURI DIVISION OF TOURISM OFFERS JUNETEENTH GRANT
|

Missouri Division of Tourism’s 2023 Juneteenth Grant information and applications are now available online. Nonprofit and civic organizations across Missouri are encouraged to visit the website to learn more and submit their application for consideration.
“The Missouri General Assembly appropriated funding for FY23 to support Juneteenth events throughout the state,” said Lori Simms, Deputy Director of Missouri Division of Tourism. “Juneteenth is the commemoration of the freedom of the last enslaved people in the United States and these events help tell authentically American stories. We encourage all sizes and types of qualifying events to apply.”
Proposals will be scored on a series of attributes, such as the number of years the event has been held, the number of days the event lasts, and attendance, among other criteria. Awards range in amounts from $5,000 to $100,000.
Application submission closes August 15.

The Annual Holden Street Fair will offer vendors, food trucks, carnival rides, a car show, pageants, a parade and tons of entertainment and will take place in Holden Missouri on August 25 - 27, 2022.

HAPPY 6TH ANNIVERSARY, EEZ!

Johnson County, Missouri’s priority in economic development is creating and retaining new jobs. The Enhanced Enterprise Zone (EEZ) is an important component of Johnson County’s incentive program for encouraging job creation, retention, and investment. The purpose of the EEZ is to provide real property tax abatement for qualifying businesses located within the designated zone. The EEZ was created pursuant to Section 135.950 to 135.973, RSMo.
Enhanced Enterprise Zone Overview:
- Designated on July 27, 2016 and is in effect until July 27, 2041
- Spans approximately 175 square miles
- Includes portions of unincorporated Johnson County and the cities of Centerview, Holden, Leeton, and portions of Warrensburg
- Includes available commercial and industrial sites, buildings, and industrial parks. Prime industrial sites are available for development, many with a full range of public services including convenient access to highways, air transportation, and telecommunications
- Provides a minimum of 50% abatement on new real property tax for at least 10 years
