Summer Reading at the Library


There is still time to sign up for our Summer Reading Program, Read Beyond the Beaten Path. The program is open to all ages. Stop by the library to register and get a schedule for all the upcoming programs. We have lots planned!

  • 5 and under - Have books read to you and keep track with stickers and reading log. Return completed reading log for a prize pack.  
  • 6-12 - Read for 30 minutes and track it on your reading log. Return reading log at our Finale for a prize pack.
  • Teen & Adult - Participate in our Reading BINGO game. Each BINGO gives you a chance in our prize raffle on August 12.

Summer Reading Activities for August include:


  • Make a Moose (registration required)
  • Doll & Teddy Bear Postcards
  • Nature Walk Scavenger Hunt
  • Art Journaling for Teens & Adults
  • Nocturnal Animal Storytime
  • Finale with Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center

& Scotland Book Club

Join us on Tuesday, August 16 at 7 p.m. for a book discussion at Canterbury Public Library. This month we are reading and discussing On Animals by Susan OrleanStop by the library to pick up a copy of the book. If you'd like to participate virtually, contact the library for the Zoom link.

Needlecraft Group


Do you crochet, knit, sew, or quilt?  Would you like to learn?  Are you interested in crafting with others on Thursday mornings at the library?  If so, contact the library and we'll get the word out to start up in September.  All abilities will be welcome.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Help your child prepare for school by reading to them everyday. Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the library.

It's easy:

  • stop by the library to pick up your packet.
  • keep a journal of all the books you share with your child
  • bring in your reading log for a prize to mark each milestone.
