WELCOME BACK FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Star Center Families,

It is an honor and privilege to introduce myself as the new principal of Star Center Elementary School and to join the phenomenal school community. I hope that this letter finds you and your family enjoying the days of summer and that you and your children are looking forward to the start of another great school year.

I am arriving at Star Center as a seasoned educator of 13 years and as a fourth-year administrator. In addition to my role as principal, I am also a mother and wife. In September, my husband Nolan and I will watch as our daughter Nora begins her first-grade year at Central Denison. In addition, we will also see our son Brayden enter his junior year of high school at Badger High School. As a family, we look forward to introducing ourselves to the Star Center community.

The 2022-2023 school year will mark my 13th year in education. Since graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I have had the pleasure of teaching science in both the Oak Creek School District, as well as in Lake Geneva at Badger High School. Following my teaching, the past three years have afforded me the opportunity to be the Associate Principal at Badger High School. It is at Badger that I have gotten to know some of you in the community and have grown my passion for connecting with the families in the district.

As the new principal of Star Center, I am excited to become part of the community and to continue the high level of education for our students. I am honored to serve in this role and am thrilled to continue being a part of a community where parents, teachers, and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and social growth.

Student Placement:

A great deal of time and effort has gone into the process of student placement for the 2022-2023 school year. Our class lists are structured to provide the best educational environments for all students.

Again, I am honored to be serving as the principal of Star Center Elementary. It is truly a privilege to be working in this community and I cannot wait for this amazing school year to begin. Please feel free to contact me at 262.348.7000 or katherine.stanton@badger.k12.wi.us.

Once again, welcome back! Let’s make this a great year at Star Center.

Together we shine,

Katie Stanton

STUDENT ATTENDANCE AND PROCEDURES

Student Attendance and Attendance Procedures

Parents, one of the biggest ways you can help your child succeed this school year is to make sure your child gets to school, on time, each and every day. The evidence is clear: children with good attendance are more likely to be successful in school. High attendance rates are linked to high student achievement. Every day counts, and missing school even 10% of the time has a significant negative impact on reading and math achievement as children progress through school. I want to ask for your commitment to making sure your child attends school every day possible this year.

When your child does have to be absent from school, we ask that you communicate with us about the absence. When your child will be absent, you have two communication options:

  1. Call Mrs. Aronson in the main office at 262-348-7000 to speak with her and/or leave a message.
  2. New this year, you may login to Powerschool to record the reason for your child’s absence. Please see the directions linked here.

We also ask that you let us know about pre-planned absences, including vacations and doctor appointments, ahead of time. When missing school for an appointment, it is always encouraged that you get documentation of your visit to provide to the school as verification. When leaving for an extended vacation, we also ask that you complete the planned absence request form linked here.

Lastly, please also note, as a school, we are required to track student attendance and support families with any attendance issues or concerns. Our highest priority is to have students at school, and we are willing to help in any way we can. As a parent, it is important to understand the current attendance laws stated below:

  • A parent or guardian may only excuse their child/children 10 days during the school year. After these 10 days, an absence can only be excused if the school is provided with a note from a doctor, dentist, court, etc. The same guidelines apply for excessive tardies.

  • Once a student has been absent for 10 days (excused or unexcused), parents/guardians will receive a letter, noting the absences as well as procedures for next steps to improve attendance

Thank you in advance for your commitment and support to your child’s attendance this school year.
