Your "Rock-Star" Volunteer for August, 2022:

Dr. Marta Jacenyik

"I started about eight years ago at the Blount Street Clinic and met our clinic dynamo, Carol Cox. The Baptist HealthCare administration sent around an email asking for volunteers, and I thought to myself, "I can do this!" and decided to hop on board.

I am a physician so I work primarily in the back of the clinic, actively providing medical care to patients in the form of diagnoses and treatment. I try to solve as many health problems as I can with our patients.

For me, it has been applying what I know. I think this is a great volunteer experience for anyone who wants to learn and contribute in the medical field.

I will never forget the few patients that I can recall helping where this literally made the difference between life and death.

I love our staff , especially the younger ones who are starting out providing care. Everyone is enthusiastic and tries their best to be kind and helpful.

Outside the clinic, I love anything related to water. This includes paddleboarding, sailing our 32 foot Catalina, and hiking and camping in our RV. We are aiming to visit all 50 states."

Who does the Health & Hope Clinic Serve?

Your Health & Hope Clinic serves the uninsured and underserved in our region. The clinic, prior to the pandemic, saw mostly people that worked but had income that did not exceed 200% above the Federal poverty level. In the last three years since COVID, we are seeing more and more zero income patients, the unhoused population, recently incarcerated, and/or those that are in a drug rehab program.  We have partnered with other service providers to assist with their healthcare and dental care, along with all our other wrap-around services like Optometry, dermatology, mental health counseling, women's services, health education, tobacco free classes, etc.

We will have our once yearly fundraiser, the Christmas at the Clinic Gala, on Tuesday, November 29th--please save the date and join us. Learn more about the event and how you can plug in to assist and support our efforts, below
