August 2022 Updates
WTC DELAWARE GALA
Our Annual Gala returns on November 3 in the Gold Ballroom of the Hotel DuPont. Already, we have received commitments from several international delegations.

As in previous years, an up and coming performer from Delaware will participate in the festivities. Danielle Alura, an A.I. duPont High School and University of Delaware graduate who was recently named Miss Global USA will join us to sing the national anthems of the United States and those of the foreign delegations attending the Gala.

Be on the lookout for more news about the Gala and registration information.

PRESIDENT'S NOTES
It's Been A Busy Year!

Each year, we at World Trade Center Delaware prepare an Annual Report to the State of Delaware. During the period FY 2022, ending on June 30, 2022, we assisted 143 individual companies, an increase of 10.8%. We often supplied substantial assistance requiring many follow-up calls, emails, or research on their behalf. This results in our members and clients being able to deliver higher quality, location and culturally specific goods and services while saving time and money for themselves and their customers, to successfully increase their international business, and hire additional employees.

International business thrives on relationships. In some parts of the world, business is conducted "between friends" - relationships that are built over a period of time through extensive in-person contact in both business and social settings. However, global businesses learned a long time ago, that it is often inconvenient, too expensive, or both, to travel to another country. Therefore, we have had to be more creative in how we make opportunities to build those relationships. Although global video conferences or phone calls are nothing new for international businesspeople, we cautiously returned to in-person events while continuing to present digital format events and meetings.

  • Events WTC Delaware organized, co-sponsored, hosted: 29, an increase of 20.8%
  • Events promoted for partners: 147 an increase of 19.5%
  • Number of participants: 114,378+ individuals, an increase of 1989.4%
  • International job opportunities posted: 15,600.

Rather than creating a barrier, the digital format expedited the organization of innovative programs and facilitated larger numbers of people to both speak and attend. For example, in November, we participated in the US Global Leadership Mid-Atlantic Regional Summit, the 5th year to do so. President Biden was the featured speaker this year and attracted over 110,000 attendees. While not usual, it is indicative of the impact of using digital events, something we will continue to offer.

The WTC Delaware’s automated interactive International Business Directory Online provides referrals to companies listed on it. It also tracks referrals and web hits.
  • Total number of referrals from directory: 290,912, an increase of 8.5%.
  • Each member averaged 853.11 referrals, an increase of 9.1%.
  • Each day this period there was an average of 797 referrals from directory, an increase of 8.4%.

Let us know if your company would like to be listed or to update your membership information.

While global video conferences or phone calls are nothing new for international business people, we cautiously returned to in-person events while continuing to present digital format events and meetings, many of which we covered in previous newsletters. We also reported on our return to Trade Winds 2022 in Dubai, and the US-Africa Business Summit in Morocco, two of our signature events, the Kickoff to the US-Africa Business Summit and our Annual EXIM training.

Our in-person intern program also resumed operation this spring. We are currently recruiting to fill several paid intern positions. Please let any Delaware students attending any in-state universities know about this career making opportunity.
