Leadership Track: Best Practices for Mentors
Friday, August 25, 2023
12:00 - 1:15 pm
Free for members & non-members.
Do you want to be on the leadership track at your organization? One of the best ways to hone your leadership abilities is to become a mentor. Are you unsure about the types of skills you might need, or the resources you might offer as a mentor? If you’re currently mentoring someone, would you like some additional guidance to ensure an enriching experience for you and your protégé?
| |
|
Leadership through mentoring helps us grow as professionals and managers. Being a mentor lets us pass on knowledge, skills and resources to other fundraisers, build important networks, and strengthen our community.
Jennifer Dettloff and Christopher Chantson, Co-Chairs of AFP Chicago’s Peer Mentoring Program, invite you to join a virtual, small-group discussion to learn best practices and skills of being an effective mentor. Attendance will be limited to 10 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. This will be a cameras-on, participatory session. The session is free to attend for AFP Chicago members and non-members.

8 Tips to Win Back Your Lapsed Donors
Have you ever heard that it’s easier to keep your current customers than find new ones? The same principle can be applied to nonprofits and their donors; securing new contributors is challenging, but it’s less difficult to retain donors who are already engaged and contributing.

Call for Applications: Peer Mentoring Program
Participation in the Peer Mentoring Program is an AFP Chicago membership benefit. It is one of the most important programs AFP Chicago offers.
This premier program is offered twice a year where seasoned fundraisers who have a minimum of 5 years of development experience are paired with someone with less than 5 years of development experience. Once applications are received, AFP Chicago’s Peer Mentoring Committee carefully matches mentors and protégés based on interests, skills, and location to help them get the most out of their match.

We invite you to become a peer mentor in the
2023 fall cycle of the AFP Peer Mentoring Program!
Why should you consider becoming a mentor? We asked some current AFP Peer Mentors the same thing. Here is their “why” …
APF Chicago’s Peer Mentoring is honestly my favorite AFP program! I have served as a mentor many times and each experience has been rewarding. I’ve had the opportunity to work with incredible, engaged, and enthusiastic colleagues representing a broad array of sectors in our industry. This has allowed me to continue to grow as a professional. My 1:1 work with protégés has made me a better colleague and supervisor to my own work team – how do I share ideas, how do I frame questions to spark creativity, am I a good listener, what are the challenges facing younger fundraisers? An incredible learning experience that I treasure.
