The Rev. A. H. (Alexander Hamilton) McNeil (aka Aaron McNeil, a name by which he is fondly remembered by his community today), was a pioneer, churchman, educator, and community leader, as the first African American Episcopal clergyman (deacon) in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He was born, October 10, 1858 and served faithfully as the first pastor (deacon in charge) of the Mission of the Good Shepherd, Hopkinsville, Kentucky, until his death in Hopkinsville, January 14, 1901. Come to this special observance as we remember and celebrate his life and the ongoing community ministry that continues in his name to this day through the Aaron McNeil House. Bell Award Winner

St. George's own Mary Carter has been named one of this year's Bell Award winners. Her award ceremony will take place on Millionaire's Row at Churchill Downs on October 5. 

The Bell Award recognizes ten adults and two high-school youths who have demonstrated the true "Spirit of Louisville" through selfless volunteer efforts.

Sacred Ground Circle

The Urban Partnership, together with the Commission on Racial Healing of the Diocese of Kentucky, will sponsor a Sacred Ground Circle for study and transformational conversation on racial healing and justice. The study is offered to any persons interested in engaging in small group dialogue and learning about the racial history of the United States. The group is limited to twelve people. The Circle will meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 6:30-8:30 PM at Calvary Episcopal Church, Louisville, beginning on September 5, 2023. There are eleven sessions with some homework requiring some reading of articles or viewing of videos.

Discerning My Path for Faithful Living

This innovative 5-month communal process invites participants into a time of deep listening, the practice of ancient and modern spiritual disciplines, and insights offered and received regarding individual gifts and passions — with classmates and covenant group facilitators as companions for the journey. Participants will engage classic and current texts, videos and articles on discernment and the ministry of the baptized as they travel with the course instructor, Jenny Puri Beaumont, and Covenant Group facilitators. The next cohort begins September 1 and lasts through December 9. Click here to learn more and register.

TRANSITIONS

The Rev. Larry Minter has accepted Bishop White's invitation to serve as Chaplain to the Retired Clergy and Spouses. He will assume this role beginning September 15. "I am grateful to Father Minter for his willingness to serve in this important ministry. His gifts of faith, pastor care, and ability to listen make him a wonderful choice," said the Bishop. Contact details will be shared closer to September 15.
