It's Back-to-School at El Camino College!

The fall semester is always an exciting time for our students, faculty and staff at El Camino. It's all about new beginnings and the air is alive with opportunity! Going back to school is a source of personal satisfaction. We are all here to greet our new students to campus and welcome back our returning Warriors. Let's support each of them to achieve their goals for educational success.

Happy BTS and set those goals high!

Department Spotlight: ECC Foundation Helps Choral Students to Perform at Carnegie Hall
On July 25th, Chorale Director Dr. Joanna Nachef and members of the ECC Chorale program presented at the Foundation Board of Directors meeting to request funding for their upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall in May 2024. After careful consideration, the Foundation Board voted to approve funding for their trip to New York City.

The program anticipates sending 90 El Camino students and alumni. The funds will be used for ECC students unable to personally fund the travel costs. The chorale students will perform various variety shows and hold other fundraisers to raise additional funds. On May 18, 2024 they will perform a concert on campus to showcase their Carnegie Hall performance.

To further help the chorale program on their road to Carnegie Hall, donations may be accepted HERE. Please select 'Other' under 'Designation', and type Carnegie Hall in the 'Comments' field. Thank you for your support!
Student Spotlight: Bryan Souice -- Engineering His Pathway to Success
Bryan Souice enrolled in El Camino College right after graduating from high school, sure in his decision, even though he always thought he would start his freshman year at a university. But after watching the success stories of family and friends at El Camino, Souice saw many advantages to following their lead.

“I found help with my classwork, opportunities to learn about different careers and industries, financial assistance, and I was lucky enough to work in a program partnering with Microsoft, which led to my current job,” said Souice, who is a Microsoft software engineer, a position he started right after graduating from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2022.

Community Spotlight: Honda Supports Warrior Pantry with Employee Food Drive
Warrior Pantry staff and volunteers accept delivery of Honda's donated food items.

Earlier this summer, Honda held an employee food collection drive throughout their Southern and Northern California offices, with collection boxes at their Torrance and Cypress locations. After a successful campaign, nearly 600 donated items were delivered to El Camino on June 14 to help restock our Warrior Pantry shelves. An additional 270 items were purchased by Honda employees across the nation, to be delivered directly to the Pantry at a later date. In total, nearly $3,500 in donations were collected for El Camino students. Thanks Honda!
Community Spotlight: Los Angeles Chargers Gift ECC Foundation Game Tickets for Faculty and Staff
In the wake of hurricane Hilary, the Los Angeles Chargers gifted the El Camino College Foundation seats to their preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on August 20th. These tickets were then given to El Camino faculty and staff to enjoy an afternoon out at SoFi Stadium.

Despite rain, flash floods and an earthquake, a great time was had by all! Thank you to our friends at the LA Chargers for your generosity. We truly value your community partnership.
Community Spotlight: Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Supports Warrior Pantry and Warrior Wardrobe with Collection Drive
Last month, the Hermosa Beach Kiwanis presented El Camino College with a donation of food, clothing and toiletry items their club collected to support the Warrior Pantry and Warrior Wardrobe. That same day, Kim Cameron of the Warrior Pantry and Andrea Sala, Executive Director of the Foundation, provided the club with an overview of the basic needs services offered to El Camino College students.

Thank you Hermosa Beach Kiwanis Club for your support and generosity to help our most vulnerable students. We truly appreciate your community support!
