Schedule Change for August Dinner
As much as we wanted to have another Saturday night dinner, we have made the decision to move the Potluck and Dinner dance scheduled for Saturday, August 19 to Monday, August 21. We recently noticed that ADC had scheduled an outside tournament (Birdies and Brews) for that same Saturday that has events going into the evening. Parking challenges, the influx of additional people to the area and noise levels (conflicting with our entertainment) all factored into the decision.
Saturday August 19 Free Concert & Food Truck
The Blind Elk Taproom is sponsoring the 2nd annual Birdies and Brews golf tournament. All are welcome to enjoy the concert and a food truck dinner that follow the tournament. For those who are interested in the golf tournament. the sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board outside the pro shop.

No, Virginia, There are No Event Fairies
|
Do you enjoy going to Mountain Glen POA-sponsored events? Volunteers are the glue that holds a community together and make all the events possible. This year, although attendance to events continues to be good, getting volunteers to help with the Monday Night Dinners and other events has been a real challenge. If you haven’t volunteered before or volunteered lately, please consider helping out next season (2024).
Some people may have the mistaken misconception that the people who volunteer for the Mountain Glen Community “just enjoy doing it” or have more free time than you do. This is not the case. They simply want to ensure that we can continue having events that bring the community together and that everyone enjoys. Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference.
The next time you’re asked, please say “yes” to being a part of maintaining the wonderful community we live in.

Registration is $75 per person and includes golf and cart fees, goodie bags, a grab-n-go breakfast, and a champion’s luncheon followed by an awards presentation. It is extremely important that we support this effort by participating, encouraging friends to participate, and seeking support from area businesses that can sponsor a hole, make a donation, or sponsor and enter a team of their own. Any help you can provide will be welcome. Our goal is to make this an annual, regional event. The tournament will support Avery County High School and Middle School girl’s golf teams.
“It is vital to support girl’s golf” according to Dave Burleson, Director of Golf at Mountain Glen Golf Club. “Our hope is that the women will see this as an opportunity to support girls in sports while showing their own solidarity for women’s golf in the region.”

In July, the MGWGA players enjoyed many rounds on our beautiful course!
Thursday, July 6, was a perfect golf day at Mountain Glen. The game was 100 yards and in! Both the Nines and Eighteens teed off from the 100-yard marker. The play was flighted by handicap and the players only carded gross scores. It was great practice for iron shots, pitching and chipping. In the First Flight, Deb Bunn won first place. Paula Grim was second, and Beth Hill was third in a scorecard play-off. In the Second Flight, Larisa Sanders took first place. Adele Carter, Brenda Wetmore, and Martha Solon tied. Another scorecard play-off was needed. Adele won second, and Brenda was the third.
Thursday, July 13, was Trash Day. The players could throw out one score on the front nine and one on the back and replace it with a par. In the First Flight, Paula Grim and Deb Bunn tied. In a scorecard playoff, Paula was first and Deb was second. Cletia Bowron and Beth Hill tied for third and Cletia won the playoff! Beth Hill Birdied #4 and Chipped-In a Birdie on #10. In the Second Flight, Adele Carter was first, Sue Hicks was second, and Terri West captured third. Loretta Herter was first in the Nines, and Lee Neel was second. Don na Rayburn had a Chip-In on #6.
On July 20, the members played the first day of the two-day Eclectic Tournament. Players recorded their scores for the round. Beth Hill had a Chip-In on #3 and a Birdie on #14. On Thursday, July 27, the contestants will play the second round of the tournament and can choose the better score for each hole.
