City mourns passing of Calvin Bullinger | |
Calvin Bullinger, a long-time employee of Mandan Police Department, passed away on July 10 after battling cancer. Bullinger was hired in 2002 and worked as a support services officer for many years, then as an evidence custodian. He was a hardworking man who will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
An informal, public celebration of life will be held at Signature Events at the Mandan Depot on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. City staff and leaders extend their heart-felt condolences to the family of Calvin Bullinger.

City Commission hears recommendations for preliminary 2024 budget | |
At the July 18 City Commission meeting, the Budget and Finance Committee presented recommendations for the 2024 budget. This gave the Commission an opportunity to review and discuss information and provide feedback to the committee before its Aug. 1 introduction and first consideration of the preliminary 2024 budget.
Specific details on the proposed budget will be available at cityofmandan.com/news after tonight's commission meeting.
The City Commission’s public hearing on the 2024 budget is scheduled for Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. prior to final consideration and approval.
City Commission meetings are open to the public and typically take place at 5:30 p.m. at Mandan City Hall, 205 Second Ave NW. Watch past meetings on freetv.org. Submit tips anonymously via text or free mobile app | |
Mandan Police Department is encouraging residents to scan the QR code below to download the tip411 app. This app is free to download and use and allows citizens to submit anonymous tips to the department.
Once downloaded, the app appears as Mandan PD and has a photo of the department patch.
The public may also send an anonymous tip to Mandan Police by texting keyword “MANDANPD” to 847411. Please add a space after the keyword and type in the tip information then hit send.

2023 Mandan Photo Contest entries due Aug. 18 | |
Photographers of all ages and experience levels are invited to enter Mandan’s third annual photo contest by capturing special features in the community and surrounding areas in Morton County. The contest is open through Aug. 18, 2023.
Mandan's summer events and all the fun things to do make for great opportunities to take photos to enter in the contest!
Category winners will receive $100 in Mandan Bucks gift certificates.

Second Annual Midwest Flavor Fest, Aug. 25 & 26 | |
Midwest Flavor Fest, a food and arts festival, is coming to Dykshoorn Park this month. The event, hosted by North Dakota Eats, will showcase some of the region’s tastiest food, along with art and craft vendors and over 15 hours of live music!
The family-friendly event is free to enter. The event kicks off Friday, Aug. 25 from noon to 10 p.m. and continues Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Automotives of all types not allowed on levees, in parks | |
The Roughrider Trail is located on Highway 1806 south of Mandan, following the old 1900s Northern Pacific Railroad bed. This is an unpaved trail for ATVs, snowmobiles, mountain bikes, etc. Entry to the trail can be gained at the Little Heart Rifle Range, Eckroth Bottoms and Fort Rice area.
Automotives of all types, including motorbikes, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, etc. are not allowed on or inside the levee or Mandan Park District property. Levee erosion and property damage are major concerns regarding use of these vehicles on the restricted properties. The public is asked to abide by signage in the areas.

'Free Fall Landfill Week' is scheduled for Sept. 18-23 | |
Mandan Public Works fifth annual “Free Fall Landfill Week” provides residents the opportunity to dispose of debris free of charge at the City landfill. The landfill will be open Monday, Sept. 18 to Saturday, Sept. 23 from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
Here’s how the special week works:
- Items will not be collected curbside with residential garbage. The landfill will accept items from Mandan residents, including furniture and appliances, free of charge.
- Residents dumping at the landfill will be required to show identification with proof of city address.
- Appliances must be cleaned of all food and other debris before they will be accepted.
- There is a $4 charge per car or pickup tire. Larger tires, such as those from tractors, semi-trailers or heavy equipment, are charged at regularly listed prices.
- No hazardous waste such as pesticides, insecticides or harsh cleaning supplies may be disposed of at the landfill.
- All paint must be in solid form with the lid off.
- Residents are reminded to tie down or tarp all loads to prevent littering along the roadway. All unsecured loads are subject to a $20 fee.
The landfill is located at 4103 Co Rd 82, approximately three miles west of Mandan on Business Loop-94, old Highway 10. Travel south a half mile and then west one mile.

Nominate a property for Beautification Recognition Program | |
The Community Beautification Committee (CBC) continues to recognize properties that enhance the aesthetic appeal of the community. Nominations can be submitted year-round. Both residential and commercial properties located within city limits are eligible for the program. Projects must be street facing, river view or other publicly viewable areas and/or landscapes.
Projects must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Landscape maintenance or enhancements (existing or new).
- Structural maintenance or enhancements (existing or new).
- Overall aesthetic improvements.
- Appealing; attention-getting seasonal or holiday displays.
