In early spring the ALL board held a retreat. It was recognized that the pandemic had disrupted our organization and that the plans made during the 2017 retreat were no longer relevant. The board and invited others gathered for a retreat led by Marc Goldberg of SCORE.
Two issues emerged as most important for ALL to address: membership (there was a decline during the pandemic) and the need for new board members to replace those that will be leaving.
Out of the retreat, a group formed to address expanding membership.
The first step we took was to do an end-of-year survey of members who had taken classes either in the fall or spring.
Three questions were particularly relevant to our work:
1.) how satisfied were members with the courses they took,
2.)would members be willing to invite a friend or neighbor, and
3.)were members interested in both in-person and Zoom classes.
The results:
83% of you responded that your classes were excellent or excellent to good.
93% of you said you would or are very likely to recommend ALL to a friend or neighbor.
60% of you said you prefer Zoom or either way of offering classes works for you.
That suggested to us that we have a good product (our classes) with the key challenge being to get the word out about that product. Since that time the Membership Team as well as the Communications Committee has been working on that effort.
I want to remind you that 93% of you said you would or would likely recommend ALL. Please do so, as the highest percent of our members first heard about us from a friend or neighbor. We think we have a great organization that helps keep us aware of the world around us and involved with others.
We hope you will help us spread the word!
