President's Message

It’s August already! Flowers are in full bloom and the Cape is awash in brilliant colors. As I sit here writing this, I’m so happy to have my windows open, no thick, cloying humidity, and dry air with a dew point of 53 (whoever paid attention to dew points before?). The air conditioner is off, and it’s just wonderful! It’s been quite the summer but fall is around the corner with crisper air and the start of a new ALL year.

By now, you’ve most likely seen the Fall catalog and registration form online and have a list of classes that you want to take entered onto your registration form, printed and ready to mail with a check or will pay online! We are very excited to offer the credit card payment option. We know many of you wanted this option for quite some time, and now, thanks to Jean DeVincentis and Kirk Young, it’s available. Just follow the directions on the registration form for a seamless experience.

Don’t forget to list alternate classes just in case a class selection is full. We are excited to offer many new courses as well as old favorites. Many of our coordinators are returning to share their ideas and expertise plus new coordinators have come aboard to add to our course offerings. We are so lucky to have so many excellent coordinators. Thank you!

So, mail your registration form and check so they arrive by August 18th. The processing of registration forms begins on August 21st. Check all the instructions on pages 3 & 4 of the catalog so you have done everything correctly. Email a copy of your registration if you are paying online.

Enjoy the rest of your summer – see you soon.

Updates: Long Range Planning

and Membership

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who

Members of the Membership Committee talk about how to spread the word about the benefits of the Cape Cod Academy For Life Long Learning.

This picture was one of several pictures included in a brochure about ALL that was recently distributed across the Cape.!.

This

Looking Forward

This spring we distributed a survey to members who had taken classes last year. We asked how they had come to start taking classes from ALL.

The most frequently offered source was "friends and neighbors."

We think this "word of mouth" is such a good recruitment tool that we'd like to encourage you to ask one of your friends or neighbors to join ALL this fall.

They will be glad you did!

In early spring the ALL board held a retreat. It was recognized that the pandemic had disrupted our organization and that the plans made during the 2017 retreat were no longer relevant. The board and invited others gathered for a retreat led by Marc Goldberg of SCORE.

Two issues emerged as most important for ALL to address: membership (there was a decline during the pandemic) and the need for new board members to replace those that will be leaving.

Out of the retreat, a group formed to address expanding membership.

The first step we took was to do an end-of-year survey of members who had taken classes either in the fall or spring.

Three questions were particularly relevant to our work:

1.) how satisfied were members with the courses they took,

2.)would members be willing to invite a friend or neighbor, and

3.)were members interested in both in-person and Zoom classes.

The results:

83% of you responded that your classes were excellent or excellent to good.

93% of you said you would or are very likely to recommend ALL to a friend or neighbor.

60% of you said you prefer Zoom or either way of offering classes works for you.

That suggested to us that we have a good product (our classes) with the key challenge being to get the word out about that product. Since that time the Membership Team as well as the Communications Committee has been working on that effort.

I want to remind you that 93% of you said you would or would likely recommend ALL. Please do so, as the highest percent of our members first heard about us from a friend or neighbor. We think we have a great organization that helps keep us aware of the world around us and involved with others.

We hope you will help us spread the word!
