All levels are welcome, some experience is recommended since this is not an instructional session.

Participants will need to bring your own subject matter (photo reference or roughed-in subject), canvas or other surface, painting/drawing materials, (including paints/pastels/pens and ink, pencils, brushes, solvents, paint rags). 15 Easels and 3 covered tables, sinks and trash cans are provided.

A Message from your Valdese Recreation Department

The summer heat has had people flocking to the Valdese Parks and Recreation Department. Whether enjoying the shade of the trails and greenway or taking a dip in the pool, we have had patrons from near and far come and see what we have to offer. The Wayne Owens Gymnasium has been utilized by young and old for volleyball, basketball, and even pickleball. Our new locker rooms have been a hit with pool and fitness center patrons, and they love the suit dryers. Expect to see some new equipment in the fitness center in coming weeks, as well as some changes to the concession stand and some of the menu there, as well.

In youth sports, the Valdese Torpedo Swim Team hosted the Tarheel Swim League Championship for their season finale on Saturday July 29, with over 1,000 people in attendance. Football, cheerleading, and outdoor soccer registrations are open through mid-August, and there will be a football parent meeting the evening of Thursday, August 10 for anyone who registers.

The Great Waldensian Footrace will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 8am, and we will have race day registration starting at 7am that morning in the Community Center lobby. The run will take participants out and back along Laurel St., and for the 10K runners, out Lovelady Road and down towards Valdese Lakeside Park before turning around and running back to the Community Center.

The Valdese Plein Air Fest will be in early September this year, and there will be all sorts of activities from the Parks and Recreation Department, Friends of the Valdese Rec, Rock School Arts Foundation, and others the week of September 9-16. Contact any of those organizations for more information on events.

We have enjoyed seeing so many patrons this summer, and we are looking forward to seeing many more in August. Please come on over and see us at your Valdese Parks and Recreation Department!
