Let's play ball! The Special Olympics Iowa State Softball Tournament presented by Sammons Financial Group is this Saturday at Prairie Ridge Sports Complex. The tournament will showcase the talents of 25 traditional teams, 2 Unified teams, and 39 softball skills athletes. Opening ceremonies start at 9:00 with the first game and skills competition beginning at 9:30. Join us at the ballpark for a fun day of softball!

Run the Principal 5K Road Race or IMT Half Marathon as a Unified Partner

The IMT Des Moines Marathon is partnering with SOIA to provide an opportunity for runners to run the Principal 5K Road Race or IMT Half Marathon with Special Olympic athletes. Unified pairs will train together in 8 weeks leading up to the race and show off their hard work on October 15 when they run the race as a Unified pair.

Athletes will sign up through this form.

Fall Classic

September 29-30

We are gearing up for our first-ever Fall Classic! This event, held at the MidAmerican PecPlex in West Des Moines, offers competitions in equestrian, flag football, flag football skills, golf, pickleball, volleyball and volleyball skills. Healthy Athletes® screenings are also provided to athletes by healthcare professionals.

Texas Roadhouse Tip-a-Cop

On Thursday, August 31st between 11:00-2:00, we are holding our annual Texas Roadhouse Tip-a-Cop® fundraiser! Stop by your local Texas Roadhouse for lunch in exchange for a freewill donation to Special Olympics Iowa.

Truck Convoy

Law enforcement officers will escort the Convoy from Veterans Parkway (Exit 101) in West Des Moines along Highway 5 and travel 20 miles to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.

The Truck Convoy for Special Olympics, on Saturday, September 16th, is a one-day celebration of the trucking industry, allied partners, and law enforcement all working together to raise money for Special Olympics Iowa.

Special Olympics Iowa athletes and families, and supporters are all invited to hold signs, cheer, and welcome the truckers as they enter the fairgrounds for lunch and a celebration with awards. The Convoy will arrive at the fairgrounds at approximately 11:30am.
