Invitation to the ACAA's Candidates Conference & Leadership Reception

We invite you to join the Akron-Canton Advocacy Alliance for the annual Candidates Conference & Leadership Reception on Wednesday, October 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Portage Country Club. This annual event brings together business executives, elected officials, candidates, economic development partners, and community stakeholders for an evening of camaraderie and conversation. This is a unique opportunity to network with decision-makers and connect with key stakeholders in an intimate setting.

This year, two fireside chats and Q&A sessions will be held with Ohio's 13th Congressional District Democratic Candidate Emilia Sykes and Republican Candidate Kevin Coughlin. Attendees will have the chance to meet the candidates, understand their policy priorities, ask questions of them, and make an informed vote on election day.

Looking ahead to the General Election on Tuesday, November 5, the ACAA will continue to prepare its members with a variety of resources including multiple recorded discussions and additional information on how/where/when to vote, which will be packaged into a Voter Election Guide.

Register for the Candidates Conference & Leadership Reception here.

August ACAA Meeting

During our August ACAA meeting, members did a deep dive on State Issue #1 and met with U.S. Congressman Michael Rulli to discuss his first several months in office. After the meeting, we participated in a tour of the Akron-Canton Airport alongside Congressman Rulli to provide updates on their ongoing development efforts. We greatly appreciate the Congressman’s time and all the ACAA members who participated in this month’s meeting!

More information will be shared on State Issue #1 will be shared in our upcoming Voter Election Guide.

For anyone interested in participating in these kinds of discussions/events, please reach out to Alexis Raineri for more information at araineri@akroncantonadvocacy.org

ACAA Provides Public Comment for Rail Expansion in Akron-Canton Region

In late July, ACAA members provided public comment at the Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) meeting about the importance of the Akron-Canton region’s inclusion in current and future passenger rail expansion discussions. Following these virtual testimonies, the ORDC invited ACAA members to participate in a virtual workshop in September, where they will listen to any ideas, comments, and concerns to better identify potential rail improvements that will contribute to making Ohio a more attractive place to conduct business, understand the rail needs in the state and opportunities for improvements to Ohio’s rail system, and develop a strategy for making rail investment decisions.

The updated draft of the State of Ohio Rail Plan can be found here.

NSBA's Washington Presentation

On September 18th and 19th, the ACAA and several small-business owners are attending the National Small Business Association’s (NSBA) 2024 Washington Presentation. At this event, more than 200 small businesses from across the nation will meet with Members of Congress and key government officials to discuss the realities of running a small business, and what their needs are from lawmakers. Alongside the conference, the ACAA plans to setup meetings with Ohio’s Congressional Delegation and invites you to join them at this unique event!
