Sunday Services for August. | |

Sunday, August 4, 2024
Service at 10:30 am
Guest Speaker - Fran Davin
Conversation with the Congregation
Sunday Service for August 4 will be different from the usual format . Looking toward the church year ahead, instead of a guest speaker, we are planning a dialog between and among UUCT members as we consider our way forward into the future of our beloved community. We will be seeking expressions of the level of member satisfaction with the programs and activities currently offered, suggestions for what might be added or altered, as well as opinions of the RE program for both children and adults, and other aspects of church life. The results of this dialog will influence the making of the calendar and activities for the coming year.
We hope all members will attend and participate in charting our future direction. Visitors and non-members are welcome to come and listen in.

Board News
We will be seating a new Board in September, welcoming three new members, Bill Blymiller, Pat Keller, and Kim McDonald, and saying goodbye to three members of the Board who have shared their gifts, and unique perspectives with dedication. Fran Davin has served for 2 years this term and contributed her extensive experience and perspective as a long time UUCT member and life long Unitarian. We are grateful to Fran for her invaluable contributions. Judy Lehman also served for two years on the Board. Despite personal loss, Judy Lehman participated actively and provided guidance and perspective as a long term UUCT member. Finally, Judy Lane will be leaving the Board. Judy Lane has been an invaluable member of our team for a long while. She has served as Secretary of the Board and brought unique insights to the many challenges we have faced. Thank you to these three members.
As we move forward, our primary focus will be to learn from you, the members of the congregation regarding your needs, purpose, and vision for our UUCT community. We will have two special listening sessions, held during our regular service at 10:30 a.m., Aug 4 and Aug 18. Please plan to attend and share your ideas, concerns and vision for the future. We will be sending more information in upcoming weeks. Also, plan to attend a Fundraising Workshop Sunday, August 11, after service in Room 2 of the Multi-Purpose building. We will be brain-storming new fund-raising ideas for the balance of the remainder of the year and into 2025. Finally, the Board wishes to thank the members of the Searching Committee for their dedication, and service as they worked to provide leadership during a very challenging time.
As we have moved through these past tumultuous months at UUCT, I am reminded of my own and others’ vulnerability and imperfection. My hope is that these experiences can lead myself and other members of our community to greater honesty, acceptance and compassion. I appreciate these words by Mulala Yousafzai: “Perfection is not the absence of flaws, but the ability to embrace them.”
In Community, Kim Robe Secretary, UUCT Board of Trustees.

-
Mangroves (men's group): 7-9 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month or join us for an informal lunch about 2 weeks after our formal meeting.

Religious Exploration
RE for Children and Youth
RE is excited to provide weekly sessions for children aged 5 to 12 years of age.
RE Teen Group meets on August 4th. RE Teen group is a safe place for individuals ages 13-19 to be educated and empowered in the Unitarian Universalist traditions of inclusiveness and compassion. Michelle Stover, a high school teacher, and Beth Brownell, a clinical therapist, will be leading the program.
Wiggle Room(Right next to the Minister’s Office)
Staff are available each Sunday to watch children ages 6 months to 4 years old. Families with infants 0-5 months are welcome to visit the Wiggle Room too. It is stocked with toys, rocking chairs, and a changing table. It is a welcoming space to quiet a restless child during service and still be able to hear the service.
Families who have not yet registered and would like to participate are asked to complete the attached form. RE Registration Form - Once completed you can scan it in an email to re@uutampa.org
Soulful Home: If you can't make it to a live RE session (or even if you can) you may want to engage with the monthly theme by accessing a packet of materials at home. The packets include stories, games, discussion topics, action invitations, craft ideas, and links for further family exploration.

Healthy Relations
Upset by something you saw or heard in church? Unsure how to disagree without being disagreeable? Did you know that there is a Healthy Relations Team ready to help?
The Healthy Relations Team provides education about conflict resolution and helps congregants solve conflicts themselves. Members of the team have been trained in a conflict resolution process called Restorative Circles, which teaches the use of listening skills to reach new solutions to problems. Current members of the HRT include Ed Benedict, Kim McDonald, Doris Ryan (chairperson), Mary Wolgemuth, and Karen Zindell.
If you would like to learn more about Restorative Circles or think you might need assistance from the HRT, please contact the team at healthyrelations@uutampa.org.
