Senior Medicare Patrol- Preventing Medicare Fraud
Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs) are state programs that help cover your Medicare costs. To qualify for a MSP, you must meet your state’s income and asset limits. Below are the baseline federal income and asset limits for each MSP. Most states use these limits, but some states have different guidelines, such as different income limits or not imposing asset limits. You should consider applying for the MSP even if you are over the limits, because some income and assets are not counted toward the limits. There are three main programs, each with different benefits and eligibility requirements:

Volunteer Spotlight!

Meet Kevin, a dedicated volunteer at Grange Acres in Haslett. Kevin started volunteering with TCOA in 2012, and his motivation comes from a deeply personal place. His mother always emphasized the importance of giving back to the community. She believed that even when things are tough for you, there are others who might be in an even harder situation. For Kevin, volunteering isn’t about seeking praise; it’s simply a way of life.

Kevin is known for making excellent coffee and is always eager to help out in any way he can. His kindness and willingness to pitch in makes a huge difference at Grange Acres. Kevin’s dedication reflects the values his mother instilled in him, and we’re grateful for his ongoing support.

Thank you, Kevin, for making our community a better place!

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline—Older Adults Survey

The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is a national resource that connects people of all ages who are experiencing mental distress with support. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) offers 24/7 call, text, and chat access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing suicidal thoughts, substance use, mental health crises, and any other kind of emotional distress. People can also dial the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline if they are worried about a friend, family member, or loved one who may need crisis support.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has partnered with Public Sector Consultants, a Lansing-based research firm, to gather input on the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline from adults aged 60 and older. Our goal is to hear your experiences, recommendations, and concerns to ensure that Michigan’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline call centers are prepared to better support older adults. It is especially important to MDHHS that the diverse experiences of Michigan’s older adults are carefully considered and incorporated into Michigan’s 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline outreach and education efforts. Your time, experience, feedback, and perspectives are valued and appreciated.
