After two weeks of summer break, we are open again! Our staff team was so thankful for the opportunity to rest, reconnect, and embark on new adventures. We are rejuvenated and excited about what God is going to do in the next season.

Thank you for praying for us and our visitors while we were closed!

Please pray for our team to have wisdom as we prepare our ministry for fall and winter.

Staff Summer Recap

July 18, 2024, was a big day for The Bridge as we celebrated our 25th Anniversary with our community. From the festive garland to the smell burgers on the BBQ, the atmosphere was charged with excitement and wonder. Many of our friends, from the youngest to the oldest, came together to celebrate the faithfulness of God.

You had to see the wonderful sight we saw that day: how many donations, volunteers, and staff who were working together; how the kids enjoyed the food and games with their parents and caregivers; how people were filled with joy despite the summer heat; and how the testimonies stirred some hearts. We sensed the Lord’s face was shining upon us with delight and favor.

At one of the tables, our staff noticed a man with his hands on his head. When the staff asked him if something was wrong, he was actually in awe. He shared how amazing it was as he watched his community enjoying themselves and at peace with one another. They prayed together and thanked God for what He has and is doing in our community.

We are so thankful for the 580 who came and celebrated our 25th anniversary. Whether you came as a volunteer or a visitor, we were honored to have you with us. God has been so faithful to The Bridge ministry, and we look forward to what He will do in the next 25 years.

While we focus on celebrating God’s faithfulness, He continues to provide for His ministry in both big and small ways. We cannot thank you enough for your partnerships.

For example, these three young girls opened a lemonade stand and donated their proceeds to The Bridge ministry. Their parents shared how hard they worked for this cause and were very proud of their generosity. What an encouraging example of giving from a cheerful heart, no matter how big or small the amount.

For a couple of visitors, the Lord provided in a different way. The visitors shared with our staff that they got a job, which was exciting. However, showing up to work on time can be challenging when you do not have a phone or a watch to track time.

We checked our Free Store for an alarm clock but did not find any. Then, one staff member opened a bag of donations that had just arrived, and behold, an alarm clock with a battery taped to it! The staff member gave it to the visitor, and we rejoiced with them. This was not just a coincidence; it was a testimony that God cares for our specific needs. Our God does not miss a thing!

For many of our visitors, their pain stems from grieving for their family and their circumstances. As part of our mandate, our staff meet them where they are at with God’s unconditional love, welcoming their tears of pain.

For one visitor, his grief for his family led him to a place of hopelessness. The staff comforted him with the Gospel. This truth brought the needed healing and hope for the future, which led him to recommit his life to the Lord. This was the best decision he could make in his moment of grieving: to entrust his heart to Jesus and allow Him to bring comfort.

Unfortunately, there are times when it is not so easy to trust the Lord. For example, after listening to a visitor’s story, one of our staff members offered to pray for him, but he kindly declined. One might feel offended by that kind of rejection, but as followers of Jesus, we know the truth of how faithful God is.

We want to be faithful like Jesus, so we continued to love and serve him. The steadfast love surely changed him because one day, he shared how much he appreciated this staff member and wanted to pray together with him. This man experienced God's goodness through our staff, leading him to a greater faith to come to the Lord.

As our ministry continues to grow, more volunteer opportunities arise:

RECEPTIONIST

At The Bridge on 20th, we are interested in having a volunteer, or 2, to serve as a receptionist a few mornings or afternoons per week. This position would involve some training in answering phones, printing documents, and other office tasks. This would release our staff member Go Edlyn to accomplish other tasks while the volunteer is in place.

TAX RETURN PREPARATION

We are wondering if there are volunteers interested in receiving training to help people complete their income tax. There is a program with CRA which provides training, laptop, tech support this fall, so that the volunteer could offer this help to community members, who would come to The Bridge, and have their income tax completed between February and April next year.

 SEWING CLASS ASSISTANT

Our sewing club class (Wednesday 12:30-2:30) could use 1 or 2 more adults who have sewing knowledge and a caring heart and a love for Jesus, to help guide class participants as they learn to sew.

CARD MAKING CLASS ASSISTANT

Our greeting card making class (Tuesdays 12:30-2:30) could use 1 or 2 more adults who enjoy working with scrapbooking/card making materials and equipment, who have a caring heart and a love for Jesus, to help guide class participants as they learn to make cards.

MEAL GROUPS

You can sign up with your family or small group to provide supper for our Friday night Youth Group. Meal Groups are an important part of the team, providing delicious meals for the night, which opens the way for fellowship among our youth and leaders.

Our Volunteer Coordinator, Carla, would love to talk with you if you would like to learn more about these roles, or if you would like to observe a class and see if it’s for you.

PRAYER TEAM

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
