Summer Enrichment Success

We want to give a huge shout-out to our High School Career Pathway students who took on the incredible challenge of teaching in our summer enrichment program for K-5 students.

These talented students, all part of our Education Career Pathway, had the unique opportunity to run their own classes, applying everything they’ve learned in their Intro to Teaching classes.

Not only did they gain valuable hands-on experience, but they also created a summer filled with amazing memories for our younger students. From field trips to Santa's Village, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Zoo, to fun days at the Waterpark and the Movies, it was a summer to remember!

A special thank you to everyone involved in making this program a success, especially Ms. Benita Johnson, who spearheaded this wonderful initiative.

We’re so proud of our students and all they’ve accomplished this summer!

Celebrating Our Staff

We are excited to share that our Summer Professional Development for staff was a huge success! It was exciting to welcome all of our staff back into the building as we prepared together for another successful school year.

Congratulations to our 5-year service award recipients: Mr. Erkan, Ms. Langton, Ms. Portugal, Ms. Ozturk, Mr. Morris, and Mr. Efe. We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to our 10-year service award recipients: Ms. Kuzma and Mr. Marron.

Outreach Efforts in the 11th Ward

We are delighted to update you on our ongoing outreach efforts in the 11th Ward! We are still working hard to get approval from the state to open a high school in Bridgeport, and our outreach team has been actively attending various events and festivals this past summer to spread the word about our amazing school.

As we continue this important work, there will be more opportunities for parents and student volunteers to join us in promoting our efforts. Please stay tuned for upcoming events where you can get involved.

Meet our New Assistant Principal

of STEM & CTE

I am thrilled to start as the new Assistant Principal of STEM & CTE at Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park. My name is Esra Solmaz, and I am truly honored to join the HSA family, where I am excited to contribute to our students’ bright futures.

Before stepping into this leadership role, I spent twelve years as an educator, teaching middle school for eight years and high school for four years. During that time, I had the privilege of teaching a wide range of subjects, including General Science, Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Environmental Sustainability, and Scientific Research. My passion for science and education has driven me to inspire and guide students, helping them unlock their full potential.

I will lead all STEM-related events, project-based learning, and the new Career Technical Education (CTE) initiative this year. CTE is an exciting new program that will allow our students to explore careers and gain essential skills while still in high school.

I look forward to working closely with our dedicated staff, supportive community, and, most importantly, our amazing students. Together, we will continue to nurture a learning environment that fosters curiosity, innovation, and academic excellence.

Thank you for welcoming me to the HSA family. I am eager to contribute to our shared mission of preparing students for success in college, careers, and beyond.
