The 2024 Mental Health America Conference theme was chosen to explore ways to DISRUPT systemic barriers, REFORM harmful practices that prevent progress, and TRANSFORM the current landscape, ensuring everyone has equitable opportunity for optimal mental health and well-being. | |
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) collects data on occupations, but, currently does not have a category specifically for peer support specialists. Today we need your help letting the federal administration know that more data is needed on the peer workforce to improve access and wages.
Recognizing peer workers through the Standard Occupational Classification system would: lead to greater recognition of peer specialists nationally, define the roles and tasks carried out by peer specialists, identify how many peer specialists are serving and in what settings, and provide information on the wages they are being paid.
This data will be critical to policymakers as they consider how to meet behavioral health needs.
We ask you to participate in this once-in-a-decade opportunity to ask OMB to add a completely new occupation classification for peer support specialists.
Will you weigh in today?
