August Library News

Hello August!

There's plenty to do at the library this summer. Join us for a travelogue and learn about the fascinating monoliths of Easter Island, presented by Mary Ann Smorra. Or venture across town to the newly renovated Woman's Club and meet local author Melissa Ziobrio, who will present her latest book about Fort Monmouth.

Adult Special Events

Movie Matinee: "Boys in the Boat"

Based on the best-selling book by Daniel James Brown, "The Boys in the Boat" is an inspirational sports drama about the underdog rowing team from the University of Washington who competed for gold at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.


The film runs 123 minutes, and is rated PG-13.

Easter Island Travelogue

Join us in the library for a travelogue about Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui. Georgian Court Professor Emerita Mary Ann Smorra will share her experience visiting this isolated and magical island. Learn about the majesty of the monolithic moai that distinguish this island.

Meet the Author: Melissa Ziobro

Monday, August 26 at 6:30 pm

Author Melissa Ziobro will present her latest book, "Fort Monmouth: The U.S. Army's House of Magic" in the spacious Little Silver Woman's Club.


All are welcome to attend! Books will be available for purchase.

Tween Programming

Decorate your own Canvas Pouch

Week starting Monday, Aug. 29


Grades 5 and older are invited to drop-in the library to color a canvas pouch. Markers and paint pens will be provided!


A limited supply of pouches will be available starting Monday, August 29, and will be available throughout the week, until we run out!

Children's Programming

Storytime Every Tuesday

Meet us outside every Tuesday morning for storytime! Programs will be held on the borough lawn (weather permitting). Bring a towel or blanket to sit on!


Join us inside for crafts and other activities. Storytime will move inside for inclement weather.


No need to register.


Yoga Storytime

Non-Fiction/History Book Club

The Non-Fiction/History Book Club is reading “Founding Mothers,” by Cokie Roberts.


The group will discuss the book at their next meeting on Monday, September 9 at 6:30 pm.

New Display: Concorde, Intrepid and More

Check out our newest display, a collection of models, books and memorabilia about the the Intrepid, Space Shuttle, Concorde and other military and Navy vessels.


Library patron Mary Ann Corrigan has generously shared these fascinating items collected by her late husband Fontaine Piper Ph.D., who served in the Navy and later worked at the Intrepid Museum after a career as a college professor.

Library passes are available first-come, first-served, and quantities are limited.

Need a rainy day activity? Pick up passes to the Monmouth Museum.


The Becker STEAM Wing is open to all ages, and features fossils, dinosaurs, a recycled arts studio, and more.


Check out the museum's Garrett Reisman Center for Air & Space, which opened in 2023. Climb into a replica Friendship 7 capsule and learn about John Glenn’s orbit around the Earth, or try an astronaut simulator.
