Nearly 7 Million Americans

Have Alzheimer's,

and Caregivers Are Stressed

By Health Day, Dennis Thompson and Carole Tanzer Miller, March 20, 2024

Nearly 7 million American seniors are living with Alzheimer’s dementia, placing a huge strain on both personal caregivers and the U.S. health care system, according to a new Alzheimer's Association report.

The cost of caring for seniors with Alzheimer’s is projected to reach $360 billion this year, up $15 billion from just a year ago, says the association's 2024 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report.

At the same time, coordinating the health care of people with dementia has become “a complex maze composed of primary care providers, specialists, social services, medication management and caregiver support,” Sam Fazio, senior director of psychosocial research and quality care at the Alzheimer’s Association, said in a news release. Your Donations Make a Lasting Impact

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported our recent fundraising efforts for the OPICA Lunch Program. For over 30 years, OPICA provided free lunches to our members. However, due to unexpected and abrupt changes, we now need to cover the cost of these meals ourselves.

If you contributed to this crucial cause, we deeply appreciate your generosity. If you haven't yet had the chance to donate, there is still time to help. Your support continues to make a significant difference. Thank you!

September is just around the corner, and at OPICA, that means it's Scholarship Month! Throughout the year, we accept donations to support our Scholarship Program, which helps ensure everyone can access our services at a reduced rate. This rate is already lower than the actual cost, but for those who still face financial challenges, we offer additional scholarship support.

You can get a head start on making a difference by donating now. Your early support helps us continue to provide essential assistance to those in need. Thank you for your generosity!
