CONTACT LENS HEALTH

Last week was contact lens health, which focused on promoting safe contact lens wear and proper hygiene to prevent eye infections and damage. The observance is an important reminder for those who wear contact lenses to maintain healthy habits, including:

• Always wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling contact lenses.
• Do not sleep in contacts unless specifically instructed by your eye care professional, as this can trap bacteria and increase the risk of infection.
• Clean and air-dry your lens case after each use and replace it at least every three months.
• Use the appropriate lens care solution. Do not store or rinse contact lenses with water, as this can introduce harmful microorganisms to the eyes.
• Follow the recommended replacement schedule for your lenses, i.e., daily, monthly, etc.
• Schedule your annual comprehensive eye exam to ensure your eyes remain healthy.
