The Hudson River Valley Ramble brings tens of thousands of people outside to enjoy the Hudson Valley’s distinct cultural heritage and scenic beauty during the Northeast’s most beautiful time of the year. The Ramble provides people of all ages an opportunity to experience the cultural landscape of the Hudson River Valley by hiking a trail, visiting a historic site, or paddling on the river. For a complete listing of events, visit www.hudsonrivervalleyramble.com.

Ramble events are led by naturalists, ecologists, historians, geologists, and trained volunteers from over 100 organizations. Events include hikes, walking tours, paddles, festivals, historic site tours, open houses, and family-friendly activities. The Hudson River Valley Ramble celebrates the history, culture, and natural resources of the Maurice D. Greenway Planning Grant Helps Orange County Protect Open Space

The Hudson River Valley Greenway awarded a $10,000 Planning Grant to Orange County to create a new Open Space Plan, a roadmap for balancing growth while preserving farms, forests, and waterways.

The plan identifies priority lands for protection, expands public access to the outdoors, and supports local agriculture, all while safeguarding water quality and cultural resources. Backing these efforts is the County's Open Space Fund, with more than $4 million available to turn the plan's goals into action.

This project is a clear example of how Greenway Grants help communities plan for a sustainable future. Orange County's leadership offers a model for other Hudson Valley communities looking to protect their most treasured places while building a resilient future. READ THE FULL PLAN >>.

Cycle the Hudson Valley 2025: Troy to Brooklyn

Earlier this month, around 160 cyclists and more than 50 volunteers, including the dedicated staff of Parks and Trails New York and the Hudson River Valley Greenway, pedaled from Troy to Brooklyn (over 200 miles) along the Empire State Trail.

Along the way, we joined the Columbia Friends of the Electric Trail, visited the Friends of Clermont at Clermont State Historic Site, crossed the Walkway Over the Hudson, explored and met the volunteers at the Hopewell Depot Museum and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy, and so much more.

It was an unforgettable ride celebrating the landscapes, history, and community spirit of the Hudson Valley - and we can't wait to do it again next year! LEARN MORE ABOUT CYCLE THE HUDSON VALLEY >>.

Step Aboard History: Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief Sets Sail

This fall, the Buffalo Maritime Center’s full-scale replica of the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief will retrace Governor DeWitt Clinton’s historic 1825 “Wedding of the Waters” journey. The 33-day Bicentennial Voyage will travel from Buffalo to New York City, stopping at 28 ports along the Erie Canal and Hudson River, including Waterford, Troy, Albany, Hudson, Kingston, Beacon, Cornwall-on-Hudson, Ossining, and New York City.

The Hudson River Valley Greenway is proud to support this once-in-a-lifetime event with a $2,500 sponsorship. The Voyage’s mission to commemorate the Erie Canal, celebrate heritage, and connect communities directly reflects the goals of the Greenway and the Maurice D. Hinchey Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area.

At each stop, visitors can step aboard the Seneca Chief, explore interactive exhibits, and join in the commemorative “Gathering of the Waters” ceremony. Onshore programming will showcase traditional boatbuilding, local history, and the canal’s enduring impact on New York State.

We invite you to be part of this historic milestone—come aboard the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief when it stops in the Hudson Valley and connect with a story 200 years in the making! LEARN MORE ABOUT THE VOYAGE >>.
