Message from Mayor

Mike Brannon

I hope each of you are enjoying a toasty summer in North Carolina!

While our area has avoided any severe weather so far this spring and summer, I encourage you to keep our neighbors to our east in your thoughts as many communities did not escape the impactful storms and flooding a few weeks ago. We never know when severe weather might arrive in our area; this is why it is so important to have safety plans in place and always heed local emergency alerts.

I want to take a moment to thank all of the HOA Presidents who attend the bi-monthly meetings coordinated by Pembrooke Ridge HOA President, Bobby Roach, who allows me the opportunity to briefly attend and share Town updates and respond to various questions. Other important topics are covered in these meetings that help further communication among our many HOAs.

The 19 HOAs across our town represent nearly 80% of our residential communities. This means these meetings serve as an excellent conduit for keeping the HOA leaders, and therefore HOA residents, informed on town matters. I encourage all HOA Presidents to attend—or send a delegate—to these worthwhile meetings. A huge thank you to Bobby for coordinating these meetings.

Thank you to the Bermuda Run Garden Club for their project to add some beautiful plantings near the Kinderton Village entrance to the Blue Heron Trail (near the tunnel at I-40). This addition is such a wonderful way to greet those who use our trail system!

As I have shared in previous messages—and in Town Council meetings—our Town will be holding municipal elections in November for three seats on our council. In mid-July, we had five individuals file as candidates for these three seats. Those candidates are: Rod Guthrie, Dylan Hines, Carson Jernigan, John Jones, and Marty Wilson. I want to thank each of these candidates for their willingness to step forward to offer their services in helping lead our Town.

I am also pleased to announce that there will be Candidate Forums held in October—like was done in 2023—that allows each of you an opportunity to meet and hear from these candidates. Thank you to Gary LeBlanc, Warwicke Place HOA President and Chairman of the Davie County Elections Board, for his willingness to coordinate these important candidate forums. Stay tuned for specific dates and locations as Gary finalizes the dates, locations and times of these events.

In our upcoming Town Council meeting on Tuesday, August 12th, I have invited the leaders of the Mocksville Women’s Club to come share information about their organization. This group extends well beyond Mocksville, and has membership from across our Town and across Davie County. I look forward to hearing about this organization and hope many of you are able to attend as well. Please join us at 6:00pm that evening at Town Hall.

As noted in this month’s newsletter, we have another Food Truck Friday planned for Friday, August 15th from 4pm-9pm. This promises to be another wonderful evening of music, games for the children, and several food options from various food truck vendors from the area. Please plan to join us for another event on the Town Green!

As a reminder, our monthly Town Council meetings are recorded and are available on the Town’s website. I look forward to connecting with you in person, by phone, or via email. Please reach out to me if you would like me to speak at your group gatherings or at any organized events. I am happy to share town news, answer questions, and certainly listen to your ideas or concerns. You can reach me by email mbrannon@townofbr.com or by phone 336-775-7633.

Mike
