I am a relative newcomer to ALL. I took my first courses in the spring of 2022 on Zoom: a great course on Yeats, and a fascinating one on historical biographies. I was hooked.
Since then, I have taken 12 courses on a range of topics: science, literature, current events and history. I have also coordinated six classes on theater topics – my career field.
Most of you have taken many more courses over many more years than I have. Others are just starting your engagement with ALL. For all of us, it is time to look through the over 70 courses in our fall catalog, online or printed, and solidify our picks!
Each of us has a wide range of parameters for choosing classes, including Zoom or in-person, personal interests, and times available. I recommend thinking broadly and boldly. Take a chance on a new interest or skill. Sign up for one of the classes highlighting the sharing of viewpoints with your peers. Look into the variety of classes in the Health and Wellness category. Make sure you select alternates. Some courses fill up, but most have unfilled capacity.
While we hope you can attend all the class meetings, don’t let an occasional conflict stop you from signing up. It constantly surprises me that retired folk have such complicated schedules. Family opportunities and medical appointments seem to fill up our calendars, many unexpectedly. It comes with the territory for you and coordinators alike. No tests. No grades. Ideal school!
The members of ALL, some 400+ strong, look forward to engaging with you on campus or Zoom this fall. Each has knowledge and skills to share from lifelong pursuits and full lives. We all seek new ideas and skills. You are the intellectually active seniors of Cape Cod!
