Summer Reading Program


We're wrapping up our Summer Reading Program. We hope you were able to register and join us for some exciting programs.

Summer Reading Programs featuring special guests:


  • Author event for adults - book talk and memoir writing workshop with Maura Casey: Wednesday, August 6 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Last Green Valley nature program for ages 6+: August 7 at 10 a.m.


And don't forget about our Finale events:

  • Friday, August 8th - Teens & Adults are welcome to join us a 5 p.m. to Level Up a favorite book or journal (bring one or choose off the donation shelf and bling the cover), refreshments, and prize raffle.
  • Saturday, August 9th - All ages Super Mario Themed Party - games, crafts, refreshments, and prize raffle.


Poetry Writing Workshop


Thursday, August 7 from 1-2 p.m.


Scotland's Poet Laureate, Susan Powers, will teach a sonnet workshop for young patrons, ages 11-15. Join us for some creative writing.


CT Dept. of Energy & Environment - Goodwin Conservation Center Library Program




Thursday, August 14th at 10 a.m.

Geology Jamboree


Join us for an informative program for ages 6 and up. A Naturalist from Goodwin Conservation Center will be here to talk about how the land around us was formed and the different types of rocks that you might find today and in the time of the dinosaurs. No sign-ups required.

Art Journaling for Teens & Adults


We meet on the 1st Friday AND the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5-7 p.m. to add a new creative page to our journals. You will receive a journal on your first visit. Supplies and a topic will be provided. This month we meet on Friday, August 1 and Wednesday, August 20 from 5-7 p.m.

It's a Stuffie Sleepover

August 15-August 16


Bring your Stuffie to the library on Friday, August 15th and make a bed or house for them. You'll say goodnight and they'll sleep in the library overnight - hopefully staying out of trouble! Stop by Saturday, August 16th between 9 and 11 for donuts and juice with your Stuffie and see what they were up to while you were away.

Free Invasive Plant Walk, Talk and Cut


Saturday, August 30

10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

at the Scotland Library


Dr. Charlotte Pyle and Rose Hiskes will lead a discussion on invasive plants and help identify those species at the library. Plan to walk the site - proper footwear, light colored clothing, gloves, water. Bring pruners, if you can, to help with the cutting and clearing.

Lunch will be provided at the outdoor picnic tables.

Attendance is limited - contact Rose by August 8th at Rose.Hiskes@ct.gov to register.



Beginner Ukulele Lesson


Saturday, September 20th

10-noon


Join us as musician, Gina Turcketta, provides an Intro to Ukulele class for ages 18 and up. You may bring your own ukulele or let us know and we can provide one for the event. Signups are required for this program. Please let us know if you'll be joining in on the fun.

Blood Pressure Monitor


The library has a Blood Pressure Monitor kit available for a 3 week loan. The kit is courtesy of the Eastern Highlands Health District. Do you know your numbers? Check out the kit and find out.

Electric Vehicle Charging Station


There is a charging station in the library parking lot for your electric vehicles. What you should know if you plan to use it:

  • Download the mobile app from the Android or Apple store at https://onelink.to/5kcvhw
  • First time users will select Charge as a Guest and will need to enter credit/debit card information before proceeding.
  • If you are a member you will need to select Account, Create Blink Code, and then enter the Blink Code when prompted.

 Enjoy thousands of free eBooks, audiobooks, and more from your local library.

The Palace app offers you all the eBooks at the library in one easy-to-use app, so you can search once, find your title, and start reading in just a few taps. 


To get started, download the Palace Project app on your device, select the Scotland Public Library, and enter your 13 digit library barcode from your library card and PIN from your Verso library account. Contact the library with any questions.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten


Help your child prepare for school by reading to them everyday. Join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the library.

It's easy:

  • stop by the library to pick up your packet.
  • keep a journal of all the books you share with your child
  • bring in your reading log for a prize to mark each milestone.
