Dear Members of the BABC

I am delighted to introduce myself as the new British Consul General in San Francisco. It is a privilege to represent the UK Government in this vibrant and forward-looking region, and I am thrilled to call San Francisco home.

This region holds a special place in my heart, and I am excited to build on the strong existing ties between the UK and the Northwestern United States. From world-leading technology and life sciences to pioneering climate action and creative industries, this region is a hub of innovation and ambition. My priority as Consul General is to deepen our relationships with state and city governments, business leaders, universities, and local communities, working together to grow our economies and tackle shared challenges such as inclusive growth and climate change.

The BABC is at the heart of this relationship, playing a pivotal role in advancing the UK’s growth agenda. Through your dynamic network, the BABC brings together business leaders, innovators, and policymakers, acting as both a connector and a powerful advocate for UK-US business interests. Your work is instrumental in creating opportunities for collaboration, driving forward our shared ambitions, and ensuring that the UK remains a leading partner in the Bay Area’s thriving economy.

Trade and investment are the lifeblood of our economies, underpinning prosperity and innovation on both sides of the Atlantic. The BABC’s efforts to promote bilateral trade and investment are vital, not only in supporting British businesses to expand and succeed in the US market, but also in attracting American investment into the UK. These exchanges fuel job creation, stimulate growth, and foster the development of new technologies and ideas that benefit our communities.

As we look to the future, the importance of strong transatlantic ties has never been greater. The BABC’s commitment to building bridges between the UK and the US ensures that our business communities remain connected, resilient, and ready to seize new opportunities. I am excited to work alongside you all to further strengthen these bonds and to champion the values of openness, innovation, and partnership that define our relationship. I look forward to meeting many of you over the coming months. Your expertise and engagement are vital to the success of our shared endeavours, and I am keen to hear your perspectives and ideas.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I look forward to many exciting years ahead.

With best wishes,

Eleanor Kiloh

Tariffs Put US-India Ties at Risk

At a time of shifting geopolitical lines few relationships will be more important than that between the United States and India. It’s a relationship at scale, rooted in shared (if imperfectly implemented) political values, supported by robust market economies, and marked by mutual strengths in technology and innovation. But in an increasingly unstable world the US-India partnership provides a level of geostrategic balance and economic opportunity from which both benefit.

The metrics that matter: What do investors look for in scaling fintech businesses?

In the early stages of building a fintech, it’s all about momentum. But as you scale, the game changes. Vision alone won’t cut it anymore. Investors want a clear line from growth to profit. Regulators demand robust systems. Your board wants to know you’re in control.

Welcome to the September BABN Policy and Trade Update.

This summer saw an unusual high level of activity around US-UK engagements: Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer was in Washington in August for meetings at the White House with President Trump and allied leaders. Vice President JD Vance used his vacation in the Cotswolds to meet with Foreign Secretary David Lammy; and teams are busy preparing President Trump's State Visit to the UK on 17-19 September, hosted by HM The King at Windsor Castle.
