August 2025 Newsletter

The LPRA Communication Team is taking some time off; therefore, this will likely be the shortest newsletter in history, which to many is likely not a bad thing. Happy holidays!

The Long Point Bird Observatory

A Rockin’ on the Point Old Cut Bird Observatory Open House will be held across the street during Rockin’ from 4 – 7:30. Even if you are not attending our Rockin’, this provides a great opportunity to bring family and friends to the Observatory to see what they are all about and purchase some swag.

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

The Grand Erie Health Unit has issued a warning bulletin concerning a tick-transmitted disease that affects both canines and humans. Please take a moment and read. Don’t panic, just be aware. Thanks!

Phragmites

Due to the efforts of many, the phragmites infestation is largely under control, but new growth may still appear. Please notify the LPRA (info@longpointrpa.com) if you spot any new growth and include its approximate location.

Thanks to the member who responded to our June newsletter regarding Phrag. The location has been noted, and the information will be forwarded to the appropriate agency to deal with.

Law Enforcement at Long Point

Summer is here, and the fun has begun at Long Point. The NC Bylaw Department has no jurisdiction over the Crown Land/Public Land abutting private property on the lakefront.  To report any illegal activity, dial the OPP non-emergency at 1-888-310-1122. In case of emergency, please dial 911.

The OPP may not respond due to call volumes, but issues are reported and recorded.

The Norfolk County Bylaw staff do not work weekends, but we do have a designated Summer Bylaw Student who deals with illegally parked cars. Therefore, on weekends. reports of illegal parking, vehicles blocking driveways, etc., should also be reported to the OPP number. They, in turn, will relay the information to the bylaw enforcement summer students for action.
