August 2025
Lower Providence Library News!
| | |
Happy August, Friends!
Summer Reading is coming to a close this month, but let's see how you did in July. You finished the month with:
- 488 Patrons registered
- 2,725 books read
- 68,088 minutes spent reading
- 190, reviews written
For the second month in a row, you all showed up for summer reading! This has been one of the best summers we have ever had at the library. There are still 9 more days to read and log your progress in Beanstack. The absolute last day to log is August 9.
There is still a month left in summer, meaning there are still vacations, pool days, and reading days to come. Don't forget to stop by the book sale and pick up some books to help get you through the last month of summer!
All proceeds from the Friends of the Library used book sale directly benefit the Lower Providence Community Library.
Adult Books: $1.00 Paperbacks and $2.00 Hardcovers
Children's Books: $.50 Paperbacks and $1.00 Hardcovers
In July I discussed 2 anticipated releases I hoped to read in July, With a Vengeance by Riley Sager and Don't Let Him In by Lisa Jewell. I am so excited, because both books did not let me down!
With a Vengeance was a departure from Riley Sager's usual books, and despite the new style, he knocked it out of the park! This was a closed-door mystery thriller set on a luxury train in 1954, on a non-stop trip from Philadelphia to Chicago. What made this great was the setting and how Riley Sager used the train and railroad industry of pre- and post-World War II to tell a compelling story.
Don't Let Him In by Lisa Jewell officially solidifies her as one of my all-time favorite thriller authors. Like None of this is True, Don't Let Him In is a psychological thriller that captivated me from the beginning. Jewell has mastered how to tell an unsettling story, and create characters that are so unlikeable but you can't look away from. They are rubbernecking on the Schuylkill Expressway in a book. I highly recommend you enjoy her books on audio; they always have a full cast helping to suck you even further into the story.
I also have a fun book fact to share with you this month: Did you know it is the 100th anniversary of The Great Gatsby?? I haven't read this classic since I was a Junior in high school at Methacton, but I checked out a copy to revisit in August!
Happy reading, and see you at the library!
