FoRR On the Road: Merrill Gardens

We brought the story of the Reedy River’s past, present, and exciting future to residents of Merrill Gardens Retirement Community. Together, memories were shared, great questions were asked and answered, and we

left inspired by the wisdom and enthusiasm of the community.

Because no matter your age, everyone has a role in protecting the Reedy!

Furman Fellows Farewell

FoRR attended the Furman University Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities Fellow’s Farewell celebration to learn about the work of other Furman Fellows and to commemorate the time spent this summer with our own two Furman Fellows, Anna Jones and Miranda Glenn. Thank you Anna and Miranda for your hard work and positivity this summer. We wish you both all the best in your future endeavors!

River Cleanups with Westminster Presbyterian Church and Adrenaline Dance Fitness

On Saturday, August 16, volunteers from Westminster Presbyterian Church and Adrenaline Dance Fitness rolled up their sleeves to help clean Richland Creek, a tributary to the Reedy River near the Greenville Zoo. Together, they collected trash, protected wildlife, and made a big impact on our watershed.

A huge thank you to these groups for proving that faith, teamwork, and even dance moves can help keep our river flowing strong and clean!

Did You Know?

Every time we remove waste, restore a streambank, or educate a classroom, we're building a future where the river thrives and our community flourishes. Together, we are making the Reedy River a place where future generations will be proud to bring family and friends. Your donation keeps the river flowing for years to come.

August 25

Registration Period for 2025 Fall River Sweep Opened

FoRR opened the registration period for our 2025 Fall River Sweep on Monday, August 25. Within just one day, two of our River Sweep locations had already hit maximum capacity with over 100 people registering to volunteer in the first 24 hours! Wow!

While registration for the Fall River Sweep has now closed due to all sites reaching maximum capacity with over 200 registered volunteers total, we still encourage you to take part in cleaning up our watershed! Afterwards, be sure to join FoRR at Southernside Brewing Co. for the Fall River Sweep after-party on Saturday, September 20 from 11 AM - 3 PM. Southernside Brewing Co. is hosting a profit-share with a portion of the proceeds from any beer or food purchase directly benefitting FoRR!

For those who can’t join us, please consider registering for the 9/25 Boyds Mill Pond Cleanup or head out to your community to hold your own litter sweep.

FoRR Board Emeritus, Rick Huffman, Elected to Prestigious American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellows

Friends of the Reedy River (FoRR) is thrilled to share the news that FoRR Board Member Emeritus, Rick Huffman, has been recognized as one of 50 ASLA Fellows in 2025.

ASLA Fellows are recognized for their exceptional contributions to the landscape architecture profession and society at large. Election to the ASLA Council of Fellows is among the highest honors the ASLA bestows on members and is based on works, leadership/management, knowledge and service.

Congratulations to Rick for this outstanding accomplishment. We are so grateful and proud of the work you have done as a true Friend of the Reedy River, and are proud to have you serve on FoRR’s Board of Directors.
