THE HERD LETTER FOR 2025 IS "N"

Reminder that the Canadian Simmental and the American Simmental fraction tables differ

Prior to purchasing a Simmental and bringing it into Canada, you will want to ensure the fraction in the ASA and the CSA are what you wish to purchase for your herd. Prior to your purchase call into the CSA and request a Canadian % review to be completed; this comes at a cost of $25.00/head. This will prevent disappointment once the animal is purchased, and you find it is not the % you require for your breeding program. After paying a hefty price on a bull some customers find out, after the fact, that they will only end up with commercial calves. CSA Upgrade Table - Click Here

IMPORTED ANIMALS

CSA OFFICE PROCEDURE FOR IMPORTING ANIMALS

The following is what we ask the member to submit when registering an import from the U.S.

-         CSA import application

-         The original registration certificate if registered with the ASA and is in your ownership. If you are Importing for the purpose of (Semen/Embryo) a copy is acceptable.

-         DNA results (if import is AI/Natural sire/semen/embryo)

-        Import animals must meet the CSA bylaws prior to Importing. If DNA does not meet the requirements with High Density from the ASA or any other lab, it may require upgrading and ordering Lab Applications and have the member providing a sample directly to Neogen for testing.

Imported animals will be registered with the same name as shown on the certificate of registration issued in the county from which they were imported. If the name of the imported animal has a herd prefix or name that is identical to one registered with the Association, the Association has the right to change the herd prefix or name as necessary.

RANDOM PARENTAGE VERIFICATION OF SIMMENTAL ANIMALS

In accordance with the CSA Bylaws and Office Policies, parentage verification of animals is required on a random basis. Random requests are to be completed within six months of the date of the letter sent to the members. If you are unable to submit the SNP sample on the random animal(s) before the 6-month period, please contact the CSA office so we may determine an alternate animal for parentage verification testing.

Embryo Procedure: Did you own the donor dam at the time of the flush?

When you purchase embryos, it is a CSA requirement that the seller (or acting Sale Agent) complete and sign an Embryo Transfer of Ownership form. You must then forward the signed form to the CSA office so that the embryo signatures can be logged into the herd book records. This will ensure that your embryo registrations are not delayed unnecessarily when the results arrive from the lab.
