In our Literature, Film, Theater, and Television department, we are pleased to welcome acclaimed writer Rumaan Alam for a discussion of Entitlement, his fourth novel, in conversation with Anna Katsavos. Set in pre-pandemic New York City, Brooke, the inexperienced Black female protagonist, is hired by an old white billionaire to manage his philanthropy. Brooke's proximity to extreme wealth soon triggers her metamorphosis as she succumbs to the seductions of money and greed. Author Visit: Rumaan Alam, Entitlement (2024) (Course 13513) meets on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 11am via Zoom. The class will be recorded and sent to students who have registered in advance.

At the end of the month, included in our Current Events and Politics category, Scott R. Levy will explain the importance of school boards to not only our public education system but also to democracy as a whole. As set forth in his book, Why School Boards Matter (2025), school boards have transformational power even as polarization and social media trends make governing more difficult. Among his relevant experiences, Levy has served as president of the Westchester Putnam School Boards association and has been elected four times to the Byram Hills Central School District Board of Education. His book will be available for purchase at the class. Author Visit: Scott Levy, Why School Boards Matter (2025) (Course 13515) meets on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 7pm at Scarsdale High School.
