MWMC Receives Award for River Restoration Work

The MWMC and The Freshwater Trust received an Outstanding Agency Project Award from the Oregon Association of Clean Water Agencies for their work as part of the Pure Water Partners (PWP). Officially formed in 2021, the PWP educates and collaborates with landowners to support restoration of riverside vegetation and natural watershed. This helps to protect the river from pollution, create cooler water temperatures, and improve wildfire resiliency. You can read more in the full press release!

Outfall Facility Inspection

In order to maintain treatment processes that protect our community and environment, we have to inspect our infrastructure and ensure it's functioning properly. Recently, we had to inspect our outfall locations and diffusion system that releases clean water into the Willamette River. To do that, a contractor had to send a diver along the riverbed to assess the diffusors, which help water flowing out of the plant from impacting river currents. Overall, the condition report was good and didn't show any damage or needed repairs to the diffusors!

Pollution Solutions

Wipes clog pipes and can lead to wastewater backups. Because wipes are woven and fibrous, they don't dissolve in water the way toilet paper does. That makes it easy for them to get caught in pipes or wastewater pumps, where they can collect other debris and cause problems. And yes, that includes wipes that are marketed as "flushable". To protect your home's pipes and your neighborhood's wastewater system, always put wipes in the trash where you're done with them!
