MICHAEL GAINES

A native of Arkansas, my family roots are in the Ozarks. My ancestors lived for generations in the southern foothills of the Ozark Mountains. I lived there as a child and spent much of my formative years there. I also lived in the southwest area of the Mississippi Delta. In 2021, following the passing of my wife of 39 years, I relocated from Little Rock, Arkansas, to California to be close to my son, Mike.

I have been painting for over 50 years, and my self-taught art is reflective of my many years of living. Trained as an attorney, I spent over a decade in Washington, D.C. with the U. S. Department of Justice and the judicial branch of government. I retired as an attorney a few years ago and have been painting full-time ever since. I divide my time between homes in the Hollywood Hills West area of LA, and Lake Arrowhead. Many of my works have focused on my surroundings - the Hollywood Hills, the Sunset Strip, the mountain scenes in and around Lake Arrowhead, and the endless SoCal locations I want to paint. I also paint works inspired by my Southern roots - the gorgeous Ozarks, rural scenes, Delta blues and the Delta-influenced rock and blues I grew up loving.

I paint primarily in acrylics. I also enjoy exploring new techniques and working with stains, collage, and acrylic-enhanced artist prints. Exhibitions & Shows include Song-Word Art House on the Sunset Strip, Galerie XII in Bergamot Station, Santa Monica, the Presidential Library and Museum in Little Rock, and the ArtPrize Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have paintings in personal and corporate collections from Washington, D.C. to Beijing. michaeljgaines@gmail.com

JAMES LONDAGIN

I have loved painting since early childhood, beginning formal painting lessons at age 11 and continuing with art classes through college. Excelling in art classes, I went on to study architecture, then earn a Bachelor’s degree in Design from the UCLA School of Fine Arts.

I began my career as a restaurant designer immediately out of college where I achieved national recognition, with my work published in several hospitality design magazines. I advanced to the positions of Design Director and Creative Director for a nation-wide restaurant design firm and was recruited to establish and head a new marketing department as Marketing Director.

Through a long and curious career path I currently enjoy teaching marketing and business classes at three southern California high schools.

NEW GALLERY ARTIST

LYNN WARNESKY-BAKER

Lynn’s journey into pottery all started with a birthday gift, a single pottery class that turned into an interest, which evolved into a passion and finally a second career.

As a child, It was no surprise to anyone that Lynn was going to be a chef. She stated it matter of factly to her father after watching PBS cooking shows one Saturday afternoon. Fueled by the genius of other well known chefs: Jacques Pepin, Martin Yan and the goddess herself, Julia Child; and the desire to not compete with her wildly artistic family, she threw herself in the creative pursuit of cooking for nearly 20 years, followed by a further 7 years in the vast world of Wine and Spirits.

One birthday, after noticing her borderline obsession with pottery videos on YouTube, Lynn’s wonderful husband bought her a single wheel-throwing class. After only a few minutes on the wheel, she was hooked with a capitol “H”. She quickly signed up for more and more classes and started learning all she could; from wheel-throwing to hand-building, large pieces to tiny beads, and even to hollow donut planters. That single class evolved from a hobby into a dream and finally into a small business.

As a ceramic artist, Lynn works mostly in Stoneware clay, which she loves for its versatility and range in color and texture. With this medium, she utilizes a variety of techniques, such as wheel-throwing, hand-building, painting and sgraffito. However, she absolutely loves falling back on her experience as a Pastry Chef, working with fondant and sugar paste, to create highly detailed wedding cakes. With this, she creates nature-inspired sculptural pieces and functional housewares that capture brief moments in time.
