In honor of the United States Semiquincentennial, Sturgis Library's 2026 Adult summer reading challenge is inspired by the Declaration of Independence.

Complete the challenge and you'll earn a pocket-sized copy of the U.S. Constitution issued by the National Archives, a commemorative "Sturgis Library Reads: America at 250" button pin, and a chance to win fantastic prizes.
One lucky winner will receive a gift-edition pocket hardcover bundle containing the complete texts of the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Emancipation Proclamation. Additional prizes include a Sturgis Library hat, tote, and mug, plus a gift card to Buttercup Cafe!

Adults are invited to join Children’s Librarian Christy Munier for a monthly gathering honoring the brilliance of picture books and picture book art.
Together, participants will thoughtfully analyze and discuss a select picture book.
This gathering will focus on Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown.
Copies of the book will be made available to participants at the gathering.

Join The Letter Writing Club and pledge to write one letter each month for the entire year.
Club members are encouraged to gather at Sturgis Library once a month where stationery, art supplies, a letter prompt, and a sense of connection will be provided.
If gathering in person is not possible, letter prompts can be emailed to club members.

Rare Archival Documents
To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Sturgis Library will be displaying rare documents from our archives that feature signatures from key Revolutionary War figures including Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and more.

In the Simpkins Room Gallery: Jack Sheedy
Some of you may know of Jack from the circulation desk at Sturgis Library, where he has worked for the past 10 years. Or you may be familiar with his newspaper articles on Cape Cod history. But early on, back in the 1970s and 80s, he had an interest in art – drawing, painting, and contributing cartoons and illustrations to his middle and high school newspapers in Braintree, MA. In more recent years, he will occasionally pick up a paintbrush or a sketchpad. This month’s Simpkins Room exhibit features a display of Jack’s sketches and paintings spanning a period of some four decades.

Lobby Display Case: Dee's Craft Nook
Dee's Craft Nook features the whimsical and endearing fiber arts creations of local artisan and Cape Cod native, Dee Gardiner-Sheedy. A mother of two, Dee resides in Bourne, Massachusetts. She has been crocheting for over five years, during which time she has turned a hobby into a passion that she enjoys sharing with others.
While she has created a range of items, Dee's specialty is in crocheting stuffed animals, of which her children are her first product testers! Over the past few years, Dee has also enjoyed taking part in several local craft fairs where she has been able to sell her wares among other artisans.
