Year End Community Impact:

Fiscal year July 2025 to June 2026

We are proud to continue to preserve and protect the Puente Hills Preserve each year for generations to come. Below are highlights of accomplishments this past fiscal year:

Preserved 5.5 acres of open space through acquisition
Cleared 23 miles of trails for wildfire preparedness and recreational enjoyment, thanks to the rangers, Conservation Corps of Long Beach, and contractors
Cleared 106 acres of urban wildland defensible space in the fall/winter for wildfire preparedness
Cleared 136 acres of urban wildland defensible space in the spring/summer for wildfire preparedness thanks to Measure PH
Maintained 1 trail with repairs, thanks to Measure PH
Actively restoring 40 acres to native habitat, restored/enhanced 282 acres overall for healthy ecosystems and wildfire preparedness
Collected 86,155 wildlife camera images for monitoring the health of the Preserve
Hosted 89 public hikes for community members, reached over 1,050 participants

✨Ecologist's Corner: Midnight Migration✨

Did you know that most migratory birds travel hundreds - even thousands - of miles under the cover of darkness?

Yes - at night! And autumn is one of the busiest migration seasons of the year, as millions of birds journey south in search of warmer winter habitats.

Michelle Mariscal, our ecologist, shares insights around this 'midnight migration' that takes place from August 1st through November 15th.
