Eighth Step Prayer

Higher Power,

I ask Your help in making my list of all those I have harmed.

I will take responsibility for my mistakes and

Be forgiving to others as You are forgiving to me.

Grant me the willingness to begin my restitution. This I pray.

Help Carry the Message,

Service Opportunities Available

River Cities Central Office continues to need trusted servants to help support our local AA community.

Current service opportunities include:

Vice Chair/Co-Chair — VACANT

You don't have to have all the answers to be of service. If you're willing to participate, learn, and help carry the message, we encourage you to attend Intergroup and find out how you can get involved.

Intergroup meets the second Monday of each month. Every AA group deserves a voice, and every group is encouraged to send a representative.

Together, we can keep River Cities AA strong and available for the alcoholic who still suffers.

SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

The Twelve Concepts and
Our Shared Service Work

The Twelve Concepts help explain how service in AA works — who makes decisions, how responsibility is shared, and how trusted servants support the Fellowship.

They remind us that AA belongs to the groups. Service bodies exist to help groups, not to direct them, and group conscience keeps everything connected and accountable.

Throughout 2026, we’ll look at one Concept each month to better understand how our service structure works and how every group plays a part.

Concept VIII

"VIII. The trustees are the principal planners and administrators of overall policy and finance. They have custodial oversight of the separately incorporated and constantly active services, exercising this through their ability to elect all the directors of these entities."

Concept VIII reminds us that trusted servants are entrusted with responsibility—not authority over the Fellowship.

The General Service Board is responsible for planning, financial stewardship, and overseeing A.A.'s service entities. These responsibilities help ensure that A.A.'s essential services remain strong, stable, and available to carry the message.

While the trustees provide leadership and oversight, they do so on behalf of the Fellowship, always guided by A.A.'s principles and the group conscience. Their role is one of stewardship, ensuring that resources are used wisely and that A.A.'s mission continues for future generations.

Concept VIII reminds us that effective leadership in A.A. is rooted in service, accountability, and a commitment to preserving the Fellowship's primary purpose: carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

Steps, Traditions & Concepts of AA

Step 8: "Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings."

Tradition 8: "Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all."

Concept 8: "The trustees are the principal planners and administrators of over-all policy and finance. They have custodial oversight of the separately incorporated and constantly active services, exercising this through their ability to elect all the directors of these entities."

Message from the Editor

Hey friends,

As August arrives, we're reminded of one of the quiet strengths that has helped Alcoholics Anonymous remain healthy and unified for generations: the Spirit of Rotation.

Rotation in service gives each of us the opportunity to grow while making room for others to serve. It reminds us that no position belongs to any one person. Instead, we are trusted servants for a time, doing our best to fulfill the responsibilities we've been given before passing them along to the next willing hand.

Service has a way of teaching lessons we never expected. It strengthens our faith, deepens our gratitude, and reminds us that we are part of something much greater than ourselves. Whether we serve by making coffee, greeting newcomers, chairing a meeting, answering the Central Office phone, or taking on a service position, every act of service helps carry the message of hope.

The beauty of rotation is that it keeps our fellowship healthy. It welcomes fresh ideas, new perspectives, and continued willingness while preserving the principles that have guided A.A. since the beginning.

Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of helping keep our fellowship connected through this newsletter. I hope each edition has encouraged participation, celebrated our local A.A. community, and reminded us that together we carry a message that changes lives.

Thank you for letting me be of service,

Barbara
