Some of this is adapted from previous newsletters about Eclipses but the dates, degrees and signs are unique to this Eclipse Season. Below I focus on the lunar eclipse on August 28, 2026. Of course if you are in the U.S. it will appear on August 27th, but check your time zones. You will find above the dates and degrees of the solar and lunar eclipse, with the dates of when the True Node and other planets conjoin, square, or oppose the eclipse degree. The time between the Node hitting the eclipse degree and the eclipse itself (either before or after) can indicate the general life span of the eclipse. However, these eclipses run even longer since Jupiter conjoins the solar eclipse three times lasting into 2027, and Uranus squares the lunar eclipse degree three times lasting into 2027. In that time, the nature of the eclipse makes itself known, and often powerful events occur on the eclipse but even more so the dates when planets activate the eclipse. Look above at those dates, and the few days before or after those dates. Scroll down to see how that may affect you if the eclipse conjoins a planet, point or angle in your chart and how the house it travels through affects you.

To quickly review: An Eclipse/Grahaṇa (“the act of seizing or holding”), or occultation, is formed when the Sun/Sūrya or Moon/Candra is obstructed from view by a certain set of circumstances involving the Earth, Sun, and Moon. A Lunar Eclipse (eclipse of the Moon) (somagrahana) can only occur at Full Moon (Sun opposite Moon), when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon blocking the Sun’s rays from reaching all or part of the Moon. A Solar Eclipse (eclipse of the Sun) (sūryagrahaṇa) can only occur on the New Moon (Sun Moon conjunction) when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth, blocking the light of the Sun. According to Earthsky.org, "People in Africa, Europe, parts of Greenland, Antarctica, most of the Americas and the eastern Pacific Ocean will see a deep lunar eclipse overnight on August 27-28, 2026. The eclipse won’t be total. But it’ll be nearly total, with 96% of the moon within the Earth’s dark umbral shadow at mid-eclipse...From start to finish, the eclipse will last 339 minutes. And the moon will be in Earth’s dark shadow – during the partial phases of the eclipse – for 199 minutes." If the skies are clear do your best to see it.

Eclipses often bring things out in the open and this particular eclipse season brought many celebrity deaths. Just in the past week or two alone: Hayden Panettiere, Shelley Fabares, Tim Curry and of course Dolly Parton, who had kept the seriousness of her illness a secret, and who made an impact on everyone, going beyond the entertainment industry by becoming a humanitarian and philanthropist, spearheading a non-profit called Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which sends books to children especially those who may not be able to afford them. Through donations and funding from her own legacy, let's hope this and Dollywood lasts in perpetuity.

Another awful event occurred this week, which was the flood on the Nepal-Tibet border and it is unfathomable to see the videos and imagine all who have been killed by this event. Unfortunately, eclipses will often be a time when you hear about natural disasters, and please if you can donate anything there are many websites that will take donations. Prayers are also especially needed.

But there are positive things that come out of these tragedies, especially when it comes to eclipses. Sometimes an eclipse is conjunct a formidable fixed star. This eclipse is conjunct the royal star Fomalhaut which is also tropical 4 Pisces, Sidereal 10 Aquarius. As Bernadette Brady says, which describes all the royal stars, including Regulus, Aldebaran, and Antares, “one will find happiness or success if ideal is noble, otherwise if impure or corrupt they may have a downfall.”

The nakṣatra of this eclipse is śatabhiṣaj, which means hundred physicians. It is an intense and difficult lunar mansion whether it is in your birth chart or in the sky. But once you move past the difficulties it provides devltion, faith, and ultimately healing, and even though healing means there might be devastation and loss you have to heal from, that is ultimately the message so as on any eclipse we have to meditate, look inward, and so all the things that are charitable and selfless.

This lunar eclipse is also marked by the Mars-Saturn square, which will be exact on September 1st so it is within orb on the 28th, the day of the eclipse. It is also a Rahu eclipse, because the Full Moon is closely conjunct Rahu, and which means you are moving towards it rather than away from it. Getting in touch with emotions, is a goal, since if you do not initiate it, then a situation will erupt and force you to deal with your feelings, emotions, relationships, etc. This can be wonderful as well as difficult. There may be an event, or simply an internal message to get you to move forward. Eclipses are also a great time to do community service, or volunteer for an organization or charity close to your heart. Donating items you do not need but might be beneficial to others, is also a great way to honor eclipse season. Mostly take deep breaths, meditate, go inward, and reflect on everything that is good in your life, and honor the people in your life whom you love and respect.

Go with the intense energy that an eclipse brings or it will occur anyway and you will be unprepared. But remember to meditate, propitiate the Sun and Moon, and reflect on everything that is occurring in your life especially when it comes to the area that the eclipse is hitting in your chart. Reflect on the world around you, send positive energy and prayers to everyone, and enjoy inner peace. When you gain strength to stay calm amidst the storm ahead then you will be able to provide strength to yourself and others.

If you have a planet, point, or angle in your chart close to the degree of the Lunar Eclipse, Sidereal. 10° Aquarius 46 (I like to take a one-two degree orb), between May 19 (when Rahu conjoined the lunar eclipse degree) and August 28, 2026, the day of the lunar eclipse, the following will be transformed by recognizing something that you have to aspire to, since it will be within sight, and will be calling you obsessively. Whatever goal that has to be reached, will be something that will take you to a different level of evolution and self-awareness, that you can use for yourself and others. If you view the dates above that Uranus squares this degree, you will note that this aspiration will not end, but will take different forms, some better, some unexpected, until the two weeks around May 12, 2027. Yes this is a long transit, and this eclipse should make clear what it is that you have to work on consciously and transform so that everything you may have repressed, ignored, or been afraid to deal with will arise and even with ups and downs will lead you to success. The following is in general what will be affected if the eclipse hits these planets and angle, either by conjunction, square, trine, or opposition. General descriptions of the grahas (planets) are as follows:

Sun. power, vigor; Moon. maternal, mind; Mars. strength, courage; Mercury. speech, learning; Jupiter.  knowledge, wealth; Venus. love, happiness; Saturn. sorrow, fear; Rahu. intensity, compulsion; Ketu. extremes, spirituality; Lagna. destiny, vitality. If you want to use Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and other angles, you can look below at tropical Western astrology for their keywords.

The bhava (house) of the Lunar Eclipse is where sidereal Aquarius is located. Between May 19-August 28, 2026, the area of life represented by that bhava will also be transformed by recognizing what area you need to push ahead in even though you might be resistant. It is an area that requires hard work and discipline, but one in which you will be compelled to move towards and as I said above, can continue through May 12, 2017 due to Uranus squaring the Lunar Eclipse degree three times. If you do not know which bhava sidereal Aquarius occupies, just count from your lagna (rising sign or ascendant), or Moon, or even your Sun. General descriptions for bhavas (houses) are as follows:

In this series of 3 classes, we will add Aṣṭakavarga (division of eight parts) to our tool box. This eight-fold division is used to weigh strengths and weaknesses of the houses in the natal chart as well as strength and weakness of transits (gocara). This is a great system, which seems complex but is much easier than it looks. We will unpack how bindus deposit positive points, and rekhas deposit negative points, resulting in the rating system of each house. This system will be explained methodically using chart examples and looking at the transits of the next six months to see how each transiting planet fares.

Looking at the placement of the eclipse of August 2026, if you have any planets, points, or angles around those degrees (I would take a one-two degree orb) then whatever is represented by that planet, point, or angle, will be prominent and important until the next lunation, meaning that if something in your chart is conjunct the degree of this month's New Moon-Solar Eclipse on August 12, 2026, it may actually be prominent until March 21, 2027, when South Node-Ketu conjoins the solar eclipse degree. If something in your chart is conjunct the degree of this month's Full Moon-Lunar Eclipse on August 28, 2026, it may be prominent until next month's Full Moon on September 26, 2026.

The New Moon represents beginnings and can help you to institute a change you have been thinking about while the Full Moon is an accomplishment or culmination and gives the push to continue on that path. If you have planets, points, or angles conjunct this month's lunations, you will feel a need to take action with either something new (New Moon) or the manifestation of something you have been working on (Full Moon). Of course, the houses that these lunations fall in, will highlight those areas of life as well.

If your birthday is between August 11-13, then the New Moon Solar Eclipse is in your solar return (varṣaphala), the annual birthday chart, or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning that a change is bound to happen, so work on that change. It could be a physical move, job change, relationship change, or simply working on yourself to integrate new patterns and habits into your life. Expect a great deal of transformative experiences that will make you want to change or take a step in a different direction. Take your time but do head in that direction, since otherwise it will happen to you whether you initiate it or not.

If your birthday is between August 27-29, then the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse is in your solar return (varṣaphala), the annual birthday chart, or close enough that it will be important for the year ahead until your next birthday, meaning that it may be a year when things you have been working on will manifest, or feel like they are moving in the right direction, so continue with whatever is fulfilling you. Set your intentions high and gather your confidence since this is the year when things will take place. The Full Moon on your birthday is especially important since the year ahead will be even more significant than usual. Make sure that you are prepared to make those changes that come with manifesting your hopes, otherwise they can pass you by.

The August lunations also occurred on the same dates and degrees in 1969, 1988 and 2007 according to the 19-year Metonic cycle so think about anything important that might have occurred in that birthday year.
