Some of this is adapted from previous newsletters about Eclipses but the dates, degrees and signs are unique to this Eclipse Season. Below I focus on eclipse season in general and the solar eclipse on August 12, 2026 in particular. I will talk more about eclipse season in the coming weeks and specifically about the lunar eclipse on August 28, 2026 in the next News & Views.
You will find above the dates and degrees of the solar and lunar eclipse, with the dates of when the True Node and other planets conjoin, square, or oppose the eclipse degree. The time between the Node hitting the eclipse degree and the eclipse itself (either before or after) can indicate the general life span of the eclipse. In that time, the nature of the eclipse makes itself known, and often powerful events occur on the eclipse but even more so the dates when planets activate the eclipse. Look above at those dates, and the few days before or after those dates.
Scroll down to see how that may affect you if the eclipse conjoins a planet, point or angle in your chart and how the house it travels through affects you.
To quickly review: An Eclipse/Grahaṇa (“the act of seizing or holding”), or occultation, is formed when the Sun/Sūrya or Moon/Candra is obstructed from view by a certain set of circumstances involving the Earth, Sun, and Moon. A Lunar Eclipse (eclipse of the Moon) (somagrahana) can only occur at Full Moon (Sun opposite Moon), when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon blocking the Sun’s rays from reaching all or part of the Moon. A Solar Eclipse (eclipse of the Sun) (sūryagrahaṇa) can only occur on the New Moon (Sun Moon conjunction) when the Moon comes between the Sun and the Earth, blocking the light of the Sun. (Go to www.nasa.gov and earthsky.org for complete information about eclipses.)
The world may experience the total solar eclipse symbolically in their horoscopes wherever they live, but it can be seen in its totality in a path that starts in Northern Russia, circle the Arctic, and then sweeps across Greenland, the western edge of Iceland (including Reykjavik) and Spain, including the Balearic Islands. At its longest, the eclipse will last two minutes and 18 seconds. For the complete eclipse path and the best information about the eclipse, go to https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/total-solar-eclipse-visible-august-12-2026/
When you see that eclipse path, where it is 100 percent visible, often times the places are also in the news even before the eclipse takes place. Take note that Spain won the World Cup, had awful wild fires, and thousands of Moroccan migrants stormed the border into Spain. Greenland is once again in the news, with President Trump threatening to revisit the United States taking it over. That does not mean the eclipse will not affect you, since it still appears in your chart, though you would not have been able to see it. Of course there are astrologers who only feel it affects you if you can see it. I do think that makes it even more viable, but just as outer planets that we cannot see with the naked eye affect us, I think eclipses affect us through their position in our charts.
In general, eclipse season is always intense, dramatic, and revealing, for better or worse. Many of us have already experienced this in the political sphere, our personal lives, and in our astrology community. Secrets come out of the closet and it begins at least a week before the eclipses begin. Watch for revelations in the media but also in government and in your personal lives. Be honest if you are holding something back from a friend, family member, partner or colleague since you will probably find out anyway. If your spouse or partner is having a secret love affair, or spending money on the side, it will come to light during eclipse season. If you make a business deal, or fall in love during eclipse season, be cautious since there are more things that will come to light as time passes. If you begin a relationship it is bound to have secrets attached to it so wait until a few weeks pass to declare your love. And if you thought you lost or misplaced something whether it is an object or document, it may turn up during this time. Be patient if it involves something important that was "hidden" on your computer, since it might rear its head.
In general, eclipse season often accompanies important events in the world---not always difficult but memorable. Eclipses create energy and intensity, and although occurrences like earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, other meteorological changes, plane crashes, violence, terrorist attacks, and political comings and goings are commonplace throughout the year, those that take place around an eclipse have universal impact and reverberate around the world. Just today as I write this on August 10th, there has been a powerful earthquake in Columbia, and recently there was one in Venezuela.
Great rises and meteoric falls of leaders (in politics, industry, sports, entertainment) might be in the news. We have recently seen the death of Lindsay Graham and the revelation that Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has metastasized. In the classic Sanskrit astrology text Brhat Samhita, its author Varahamihira says that Jupiter conjoining the eclipse will cause destruction of the learned, kings, ministers, elephants and horses. We have already seen, at least in the United States, candidates who were thought of as dark horses winning primaries. If we look above and see that Mars conjoins the eclipse degree on November 3, 2026, the U.S. Election Day, we can expect many surprises and sudden turnarounds as to which candidates will win. Presently the North Node-Rahu is at the same degree as the February 17, 2026 solar eclipse. This means we are in a doubly intense planetary period. Stay tuned for more of this over the next two weeks and of course way beyond since this solar eclipse extends until at least March 21, 2027 when South Node-Ketu hits the eclipse degree. But the intensity of this and the repercussions might increase exponentially. Time will tell. In general all things unexpected and intense come to the surface for a greater purpose of healing personally and in the world.
This eclipse season may indicate that you have to move on from certain things in your life especially since the South Node-Ketu is conjunct the Sun, meaning that things need to be washed away in order to more forward. This can be wonderful as well as difficult. There may be an event, or simply an internal message to get you to move forward. Eclipses are also a great time to do community service, or volunteer for an organization or charity close to your heart. Donating items you do not need but might be beneficial to others, is also a great way to honor eclipse season. Mostly take deep breaths, meditate, go inward, and reflect on everything that is good in your life, and honor the people in your life whom you love and respect.
Go with the intense energy that an eclipse brings or it will occur anyway and you will be unprepared. But remember to meditate, propitiate the Sun and Moon, and reflect on everything that is occurring in your life especially when it comes to the area that the eclipse is hitting in your chart. Reflect on the world around you, send positive energy and prayers to everyone, and enjoy inner peace. When you gain strength to stay calm amidst the storm ahead then you will be able to provide strength to yourself and others.
Mostly it is a time to go inward, meditate, and reflect.
If you cannot, or do not want to, go to where it is total, you can watch the eclipse live, at www.nasa.gov and even see it filmed after the event. Scroll down for whichever zodiac you use for more information about how the solar eclipse may affect you.
Read if you use sidereal Indian astrology. If you have a planet, point, or angle in your chart close to the degree of the Solar Eclipse, Sidereal 25° Cancer 53' (I like to take a one-two degree orb), between now and March 21, 2027, when Ketu conjoins that eclipse degree, the following will be transformed by recognizing something that you have to aspire to, since it will be within sight, and will be calling you obsessively. Whatever goal that has to be reached, will be something that will take you to a different level of evolution and self-awareness, that you can use for yourself and others. This is in general what will be affected if the eclipse hits these planets and angle, either by conjunction, square, trine, or opposition. General descriptions of the grahas (planets) are as follows:
Sun. power, vigor; Moon. maternal, mind; Mars. strength, courage; Mercury. speech, learning; Jupiter. knowledge, wealth; Venus. love, happiness; Saturn. sorrow, fear; Rahu. intensity, compulsion; Ketu. extremes, spirituality; Lagna. destiny, vitality. If you want to use Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and other angles, you can look below at tropical Western astrology for their keywords.
The bhava (house) of the Solar Eclipse is where sidereal Cancer is located. Between now and March 21, 2027h, the area of life represented by that bhava will also be transformed by recognizing what area you need to push ahead in even though you might be resistant. It is an area that requires hard work and discipline, but one in which you will be compelled to move towards. If you do not know which bhava sidereal Cancer occupies, just count from your lagna (rising sign or ascendant), or Moon, or even your Sun. General descriptions for bhavas (houses) are as follows:
1. appearance, destiny, temperament, personality, constitution; 2. Money, family life, food, speech, early childhood; 3. Siblings, Fine arts, courage, desires; 4.
