We are starting up!

August marks the start of our new year and your first opportunity to register for fall classes. Over 80 courses to choose from! So check our catalog early and often. Our website (capecodall.org) is the best place to begin browsing. It is updated regularly with latecomer courses and expanded information.

Welcome to ALL's Fall 2026 semester! Some of our courses are in-person at Cape Cod Community College in the Grossman Commons Building, and some of our courses are on Zoom. When registering, be sure to note whether each course selection is in a classroom (C) or on Zoom (Z). We are also offering hybrid courses in classrooms (HC) and on Zoom (HZ).

Be sure to read the registration instructions on our website and in our catalog carefully, using the links below. There are two ways to register and pay your membership fee. As in the past, members can register by mail. Members who opt to pay online on our website can email their registration form to ALL. See our website or catalog for more information. (There is a $5 handling fee for online payments.)

In order to be included in the first batch of processing when registration opens August 24, your completed registration form and payment must arrive by August 21.

PLEASE BE SURE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS ACCURATE AND LEGIBLE ON YOUR REGISTRATION FORM. You will receive your course schedule by email on or after August 24. In addition, many course coordinators will communicate with you by email, and all coordinators offering courses on Zoom will send email instructions explaining how to enter your Zoom classrooms.

ALL’s Special Events Committee, led by Jay Green, is hard at work planning a wonderful lineup of activities for the coming year. Here is a quick preview of what’s in store.

This fall and winter, join us in October for a Dinner Theater outing, followed by a seasonal performance with the Cape Cod Symphony in December. As winter unfolds, we’ll also be offering a Wine Tasting, a practical session on Preventing Scams, and a guided tour of Hyannis Regional Airport.

Looking ahead to spring, plans are also underway for a day trip to Nantucket.

Ransom by Daniel Silva: a Gabriel Allon book. A search for a British billionaire’s missing wife turns up secrets and an old enemy.

The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett: as things get tougher during the Depression, several women look for ways to improve their lives.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir: a mild-mannered science teacher wakes up from a long sleep alone and far from home. The fate of humanity rests on his shoulders.

The Book of Lost Friends by Lisa Wingate who brings to life startling stories from actual “Lost Friend” advertisements that appeared in Southern newspapers after the Civil War, as newly freed slaves desperately searched for loved ones who had been sold away.

The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri: this unforgettable novel puts human faces to the Syrian War with the immigrant story of a beekeeper, his wife, and the triumph of spirit when his world becomes unrecognizable.

The Accidental President by A.J. Baime: a fast-paced read. Masterful reporting of Harry Truman’s first 120 days as president when he took on Germany, Japan and Stalin and a secret weapon of unimaginable power.

Movies:

Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling. Excellent adaptation of the book. Enjoy watching the movie for free on Prime Video and see what this sixth-grade science teacher experiences in deep space. A delightful movie!

The Odyssey: mythological epic film directed by Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thompson. Adapted from Homer’s 3000-year-old tale, starring an ensemble cast with Matt Damon as Odysseus, Ann Hathaway as Penelope, and Tom Holland as Telemachus. “A colossal piece of cinema.” (The Standard). A must see!

The Sheep Detectives, starring Hugh Jackman, a few other humans, and a herd of sheep. A fun, light movie in which a flock of sheep help the humans of the town solve the murder of their beloved shepherd. Watch on Prime Video.

Things To Do:

Yarmouth Sand Sculpture Trail. Find the 33 sand sculptures by Sean Fitzpatrick throughout the town. Free.

Hairspray!, Cape Cod Playhouse in Dennis. Through August 8th. See website for tickets, dates, and times.

Mean Girls, Cape Cod Playhouse, Dennis. Aug. 12 – 29. See website for tickets, dates, and times.

Check Cape Cod Playhouse website for information on both of the above plays. Most day/dates are Thursday though Saturday, with a few Wednesdays. No Sunday performances.

Highways and Heartstrings: A Musical Tribute to American Songwriting Icon, Jimmy Webb. August 5 – 15. Cotuit Center for the Arts.

Cape Cod Food and Craft Beer Festival. August 8, Cape Cod Fairgrounds, 1220 Nathan Ellis Highway, East Falmouth. Check website for tickets and information.

The ALL Art Gallery exhibits the works of artists connected to the Academy for Lifelong Learning of Cape Cod and is located outside of classrooms 106 and 115 in the Grossman Building on the campus of Cape Cod Community College.

When you return to class this fall you will be greeted by a new exhibit, featuring artworks by our own long-time coordinators Larry Brown and Mary Lou Heinz. Be sure to check out their creations when you are back on campus!
