A Message from the PIC Team

September: A Season of New Beginnings

September brings a fresh start, new opportunities, and a renewed focus on learning and growth. As students return to school, families of children with disabilities may also be navigating new teachers, classrooms, services, schedules, and expectations.

This month, we encourage parents and caregivers to stay informed, stay involved, and advocate with confidence. Every student deserves access to the supports, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed.

Remember: You are an important member of your child’s educational team. Ask questions, communicate with your child’s school, review their educational plans, and celebrate their strengths and progress along the way.

At the Parent Information Center, we are committed to empowering families through information, education, and support. Together, we can help ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.

Here’s to a successful school year filled with possibilities!

With gratitude,

The PHP PIC Team

High Expectations for All

September is a time for fresh starts, new goals, and new opportunities.

As students return to school, let’s remember that every student deserves to be held to high expectations—including students with disabilities.

High expectations do not mean expecting every student to learn in the same way or at the same pace. They mean believing that every student can learn, grow, contribute, and make meaningful progress when provided with the appropriate supports and opportunities.

This September, let’s:

  • Believe in every student’s potential.
  • Set meaningful and achievable goals.
  • Focus on strengths, not limitations.
  • Provide the supports and accommodations students need.
  • Encourage students to advocate for themselves.
  • Celebrate progress, growth, and effort.

When families, educators, and students work together with high expectations, we create a school environment where all students can thrive.

A disability should never determine the limits of a student’s dreams.

Let’s start this school year believing in what every student can achieve!
