BEST. FRIDAY. EVER
Last Friday 47 nonprofits gathered in Central Carolina Community Foundations office for a breakfast, not knowing why
they had been invited.......
During that breakfast CCCF President & CEO JoAnn Turnquist announced to the group that each had been awarded $10,000 by the #CheerfulGiver
All were inspired by and grateful for the Cheerful Giver, an anonymous donor who wholeheartedly believes and lives by 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Each of the recipients, including our very own Chapin We Care and Goodworks (who were among those beneficiaries), send their b lessings to the   #CheerfulGiver   for their huge philanthropic heart!

NATIONAL SURGICAL ONCOLOGIST DAY
National Surgical Oncologist Day is a day to celebrate the accomplishments of every lifesaving surgeon who specializes in abolishing cancer!
Surgical oncologists help to both diagnose cancer and cure it through surgery.
Whether they perform a needle biopsy to take a sample or perform surgery to remove all or parts of the cancerous tissue, they work with a team of experts to provide you with the best possible care available.
While they also treat cancer, they strive to learn more and better understand the variety of cancers we are faced with daily. As experts in their field, they continuously seek improvements in care for their patients. From cutting edge techniques
to the latest in research and therapies, surgical oncologists push toward a cure every day.
Their dedication and leadership in the field of oncology make a difference in the lives of cancer patients today and tomorrow.
NATIONAL BAO DAY
Ancient Chinese gastronomic delicacies often cause oohs and ahhs on food holidays. On August 22nd, National
Bao Day guarantees your taste buds
will be shouting “Wow!”
At first one might consider it to be just a simple steamed bun. Dumplings aside, this is the flavorful Chinese dough used to make bāozi, or bao and is stuffed with savory meats or sweets.
More than a side dish, bao is a type of sandwich which has been gaining popularity in the United States.
There are excellent reasons, too!
Created as an elegant package, bao fits
in the palm of the hand making it portable.
Bao satisfies with all our favorite flavors. From spicy to sweet, BBQ and Thai, this little sandwich covers breakfast, lunch, supper and dessert.
Still hungry? They’re great snacks and perfect for sharing, too.
NEVER BEAN BETTER DAY
If you’ve waited for a Never Bean Better Day to enjoy the unconditional love of your canine companion, August 22nd is the day!
Just like our ever-joyful pets, Never Bean Better Day casts away the worries and spreads enthusiasm for life.
Never Bean Better Day encourages both the spirit of generosity and sharing the joys of life with delight. Go out into the world with your family pet and plant the bean of love every where you go.
Share it generously, like dogs do when they are taking care of us when we are sick or down, giving us all their love with abandon in the forms of licks and snuggles or tricks and antics only canines know how to do. Sometimes, they even have their own love song or woo woo. It’s a Never Bean Better Day to share all the love your dog has stored up!
NATIONAL TOOTH FAIRY DAY
Wiggled and loose, that tooth that comes free just might get collected on
National Tooth Fairy Day observed
on August 22nd. The day is also celebrated on  February 28th
This childhood favorite evolved with a group of healthcare fairies during
the mid-1920s.
From bath fairies to
Fairy Wand Tooth Whitener, kids were encouraged through a wave of advertisements and health classes
to eat their veggies, brush their teeth
and get fresh air.
Other than a dimple in a cute little chin, What’s more adorable than a toothless grin ~ Terri Guillemets
Esther Watkins Arnold brought the tooth fairy to life in an eight-page playlet in
1927 called The Tooth Fairy.
At the same time, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle made his claim that fairies and gnomes were real by publishing pictures of two girls surrounded by “verified” fairies.
Schools began performing Arnold’s play the following year, and children, primed with vivid imaginations, placed their freshly lost teeth under their pillows at night in the hopes of a visit from the tooth fairy.
NATIONAL PECAN TORTE DAY
Each year on August 22nd, pecan
lovers across the country participate in National Pecan Torte Day.
A torte is a rich dessert filled with
whipped cream, buttercream, mousse,
jam, fruits or nuts.
The baker will often glaze and garnish
the torte once it is cooled.
Generally made with little to no flour,
tortes use ground nuts or breadcrumbs, along with sugar, eggs and flavorings instead.
The pecan tree is the only nut tree
native to North America.
Other Pecan Holidays:
National Pecan Day – April 14th
National Pecan Pie Day – July 12th
National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day – August 20th
