Dear Williston Wire Readers,
Area students returned to school this week. Williston Basin School District #7's enrollment continues to climb! In August of 2024, there were 5,401 students compared to 5,213 in 2023, an increase of 3.6 percent. The school district registered 476 kindergarteners! In this edition of the Williston Wire, we highlight some of the news from the schools.

Community invited to Grand Opening of Williston Basin CTE Center September 10 | News Release - We invite you to the open house for the Williston Basin Career & Technical Center and Del Easton Alternative High School on Tuesday, September 10, at 6:00 PM. The facility is located on the north side of Williston High School at door 18. The Williston Basin CTE Center and Del Easton High School will officially open its doors on the first day of school, August 21, 2024. Designed to prepare students for success in emerging careers, the center features cutting-edge facilities and forward-thinking programs, making it a hub for educational excellence in the region. This project is made possible by a grant from the ND CTE Capital Projects Fund, along with matching donations from generous community partners. | |

St. Joseph's Catholic School adds 7th Grade | KUMV-TV - Change is in the air at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Williston. Last year’s sixth graders would normally be off to the middle school, but now seventh grade is taught there for the first time. “It feels amazing to connect with all the people and be grateful to be at the church,” said Maci Hanson. The 10 seventh-grade students, along with fifth and sixth graders, now walk and learn with different teachers for different subjects, similar to a middle school setting. | |

Alexander approves School Expansion | McKenzie County Farmer - McKenzie County Farmer - Alexander Public School (APS) District Superintendent Leslie Bieber recently announced that the APS School Board approved the districts long-awaited school expansion project. The Farmer first covered this expansion project in January 2023. It was reported at the time, that the school district had a student enrollment growth of 550 percent over the previous 15 years, with one-third of that growth occurring between 2018-2023. | |

Tioga's Drone Camp for Kids attracts 65 Students | Minot Daily News - The 8th Annual Drone Camp for Kids immersed 65 students from 5th to 12TH grade in the world of drones and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Tioga Area Economic Development, in partnership with Enel Green Power North America, sponsored the camp Aug. 10-11. | |

AM1090 "The Flag" to move from Tioga to Watford City | McKenzie County Farmer - Isn’t it high time that Watford City has its own radio station? We’re excited to announce that AM1090 “The Flag” is moving from Tioga to Watford City. Our “Window on Main” studio will soon be under construction inside the offices of the McKenzie County Farmer at 109 Main Street North. This will allow us to provide more local news, weather and sports coverage for listeners in Northwest North Dakota and Northeast Montana. We will launch a program called “Watford City Wednesday” soon, which will be all about giving voice to our bustling city and region.
