OUR MISSION:

St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.

We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.

From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi

Dear St. Rita Parents and Guardians,

Our soft opening day is this Monday, August 26, from 8:30-12:00 noon. This is an opportunity that you and your child have to stop into school for a short visit to meet your child’s teacher and drop off his/her school supplies. Class assignments will be posted on the FACTS Family Portal at 5:00 P.M. today. Our teachers and administrators have spent an inordinate amount of time on class lists in order to place your child with a teacher and classmates that will allow him/her to positively learn and grow. Please support the decision made by our dedicated and knowledgeable teachers as they have the best interest of your child in mind even though they may not have placed him or her with their “bestie”. Thank you for your understanding.

I’d like to share with you a few changes in our staffing for the upcoming school year. Ms. Kim DelVecchio has left us to take a position at the Amistad Academy in New Haven. We thank Ms. DelVecchio for her service to our students. Miss Maggie Silbo has been hired to take the grade 1 position. Miss Silbo attended Catholic schools since PreK and holds a Masters in Elementary Education from Fairfield University. She holds an initial educators license in elementary education. Maggie previously served as a reading tutor in Cromwell.

In addition, we have been fortunate to hire Miss Taylor Long as the second ELA teacher in our Middle School. She will be working closely with Mrs. Marie Rourke, teaching literature, English and vocabulary, as well as sharing grade 7 homeroom responsibilities. Miss Long holds a Masters in Elementary Education from Quinnipiac and is cross endorsed in secondary English. She holds an initial educators license in elementary education and also 7-12 English. Taylor previously worked in Hamden and Wallingford as both a teacher and special education paraprofessional.

Mrs. Susan Villiani will be teaching Spanish to students in grades 3-5 in addition to working in our aftercare program. Our school counselor, Mr. Peter Tehan, will be joining us full-time this year. In addition to his role as counselor, he will also be our new Athletic Director. Finally, we are in the process of hiring a PE teacher who will be joining us after Labor Day.

Our teachers have spent the last three days in either Professional Development workshops or faculty meetings. They are so very excited to welcome everyone to St. Rita School for the ‘24-‘25school year. Our theme this year is “Hold On To Love”. Working together (parents, students, and teachers) in a loving community which God has created, we will be able to provide our students with a safe, secure and loving space where each child feels welcome and included.

Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. We can’t wait to see you all on Monday. Have a marvelous weekend.

God Bless,

Mrs. Tiezzi

Nurse's Corner

Hamden Public Schools and St. Rita School will now be following the new respiratory virus guidelines set forth by the CDC and our local health department.

COVID will now fall into the same category as the flu and RSV as a respiratory virus.

If your child develops symptoms of a respiratory virus (cough, fever, runny nose , congestion, fatigue), they should stay home until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication and their symptoms are improving. They can return to school and we would encourage the use of a mask for 5 days.

Reminder:

Required physicals for PreK , Kindergarten and Grade 7:

Please remember to send in your child's physical if they are entering grade 7, PreK, and/or Kindergarten .These are required for entry into school in August.

Medication reminder: as allergy season approaches:

Please do not send medication into school with your child. This includes any Over The Counter medication (Advil, Tylenol, Midol, cold medicine, allergy medicine, etc). Medication that needs to be taken during school hours must be brought into school by an adult along with a medication order from the physician.

If you wish to have cough drops available to your child please send them into school with a note. The nurse will keep them in her office and administer them to your child as needed.

Thank you for your cooperation

Please pray for all the deceased members of our
